Sunny - what a car crash life!

So ol' Tammy is up in court today and potentially looking at 26 years: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fox35orlando.com/news/tammy-sytch-wwe-star-to-be-sentenced-for-deadly-florida-dui-crash.amp

What a fucking life - the car crash is an analogy of her very existence.

Her life would be far-fetched if it were a Hollywood movie script.

So, do you feel sorry for her? Her own fault - or just another victim of the toxic world of wrestling. To be fair I'm just surprised she's not dead.

I think people would potentially feel sorry for her if she wasn't a complete nob. I've seen Bagwell get a DUI but he's reportedly tried to get himself together.

I think she is partially a victim of wrestling, there are just so many people from the 90s scene suffering from addictions for it to be a coincidence. However she is a victim of her own self inflated ego.

I agree it’s pretty astounding that she’s still alive honestly. Definitely chewed up and spat out by a toxic industry during a time when it was even worse for women than it is now. She was clearly not equipped for it at all and could not have chosen a worse career path.

I am also hesitant to demonise and condemn addicts because addiction is fucking awful and usually indicative of many other  problems.

There is also a lot of typical wrestling fan misogyny applied to her when a lot of male wrestlers have been complete fuck ups and been given chance after chance by fans, and by promoters as long as they were still considered to be worth a buck.

Over the years it’s felt more like she needed to be sectioned or put into mandated rehab rather than locked up. She hasn’t helped herself at times, but I have to wonder how often she’s been in her right mind whenever she’s been acting out.

Obviously once you’re at the point of killing and endangering people you’re past the point of leniency, but it’s blind luck that many of the other intoxicated wrestlers driving over the years haven’t killed more people.

I dunno, it all just feels very sad.

It's true male wrestlers get far more leniency if viewed as being worth a few quid, Flair is probably a prime example. Fan perception is more lenient too, Jake Roberts was a mess for years, although seems to be doing okay now. Until she died I feel Chyna got lots of criticism when she wasn't okay and struggled. It took death for many to not be shitty.

You could also look at (non wrestler) Vince Neil. Killed someone, but hey he's a rock star he's going to be off his tits. Just being a cool guy. Record company chucks shit loads at him, as do fans.

I wonder how much other wrestlers have reached out to help her. It seems like many male wrestlers get help, either from WWE or mates. Did she piss one to many off or is it a boys club thing?

I don't want to demonise addicts, it is rough and addicts don't become addicts for fun, most of us get that. She probably needs help, and I would hope that she gets it. That's for everyone's safety not just hers and that relates to addicts I  general. We sadly live in a world that would rather let them rot or fuck up and possibly kill someone first, then lock them up than lend a hand and stop people from fucking up.

Ok so where do we start. I'm all for people getting 2nd chances and sometimes even a 3rd chance, however.. how many chances has she had? It went from bad to worse... from being a drug addict to molesting Damian Darlings house to this... Someone died and she still acts like it's nothing. She doesn't believe rules are for her... Well Tam Tam... play stupid games and win stupid prices. I passed that "feeling sorry" station a long time ago but perhaps I'm biased because I knew her in real life.

I have no skin in the game but any time Sunny's come up here before she's always prompted a bizarre, noticeably more visceral hate reaction than any other wrestler I can ever recall. It's like a whole bunch of people bought Sunny Side Up and couldn't finish on it.

Any story I’ve heard of Sunny pretty much since the moment she joined the business has her as an absolute cunt of a person so not buying the addiction chat (and I say that as someone who suffers myself from a gambling addiction - though a number of years clean - so I understand addiction) or the chewed up and spat out chat. She was a cunt before the drink and drugs took hold by most accounts and remained one throughout.

She was the worst thing about that DSOTR on Candido which had Shawn Michaels discussed, no mean feat. She is regularly discussed with total hatred by most that knew her as someone referenced.

I mean obviously I didn’t know her personally and it could all be bullshit but there is far too much there to think that there is some sort of conspiracy against her and she’s really just a poor story of what wrestling can do to people.

I don't dispute that she's done many bad things, but I think it's ludicrous to claim that the culture and people she found herself involved with from her early 20s onwards didn't do a ton of harm. You acknowledge yourself that Shawn Michaels was especially vile at that time, also powerful and influential politically. She cheated on Candido and took advantage of him being madly in love with her. That is shitty behaviour, but amongst the boys (many of whom slept around and cheated on their partners and bragged about it in their books) that makes her satan.

See also: Paige being slut-shamed for her sex tape and fans revelling in her spiralling out of control, whereas a male wrestler with a tape of them shagging multiple women's wrestlers at once would be lauded as an absolute LEGEND MATE by the same people.

A lot of the quotes from people who hate her read like this:

SANDMAN:

"There are so many stories I could tell you about how she disrespected Chris.

We were on the roof of a club in Miami where she was blowing Raven [while] she just had her hand out for pills.

[I was] walking into the boiler room to get high and f***in’ Sabu’s in there gettin’ a BJ from Tammy [in exchange for pills]…he doesn’t give her the Somas ’til she’s done the job.

[Another time] I walked into the bathroom, and she’s blowing him and jerkin’ Joey Matthews off, I think it was…[all the while] Chris is running around the bar looking for her…

The take away from seeing an addict staggering around a venue offering sex for pills is that it's "disrespectful" to her boyfriend. No criticism of the people accepting said sexual favours for drugs, naturally.

The Godwinns:

Quote

"So, the night [on RAW] that I finally ‘slopped’ Sunny, we made the slop bucket which was usually [filled to the top]…"

MARK CANTERBURY (Henry Godwinn):

"…That day the bucket was about half full.

I took it in the locker room, and I said, ‘Sunny’s getting slopped tonight… don’t nobody do nothing to this…’

And I set it down, and I walked out.

When I come back, the bucket…is full.

All the boys are spittin’ their dip in there…Razor, 1-2-3 Kid, taking it to the shower…doing a little…[you know]…’ spicin’ it up.’

So, [when she got ‘slopped’] she got a mixture of a little bit of everybody that night…"

Paul Bearer and Henry Godwinn:

Quote

MARK CANTERBURY (Henry Godwinn):

"She had so much heat [backstage]…in Germany, they had to send her home a week early because somebody s*** in her food. I don’t know who it was…"

PAUL BEARER:

AD

"It was Sean Waltman!

[He] decided he was going to poop in Tammy’s Chinese food. They made them in these containers. She went back to the hotel [oblivious], and she ate it.

The next day we got on the bus and of course, [somebody yells] ‘Tammy…did you like your poo-poo platter last night?’"

Cheating on her partner repeatedly and displaying diva-ish/egotistical/narcissistic behaviour are the main charges I see levelled against her before she was an addict. So many of the male wrestlers of the time did that and far worse. I'm not trying to do whataboutism here. I'm not saying all of her bad behaviour is excused because men do it too, but  when a woman dares to be an arsehole or sleeps around in wrestling it's a hell of a different narrative from when a man does it. Maybe Sable and Tammy Sytch are two of the worst humans ever and deserved to have people shit in their bags and on their food. Or maybe when a woman is an arsehole in a thoroughly toxic boys club industry, they get less of a pass than men do.

Her life derailed into addiction by her mid-20s and she was part of a horrible industry that treated women like shit before that, so I'm not comfortable with the black and white writing off of a human being, particularly based on the testimony of people who gleefully told tales of people shitting in her food.
