Mr_Danger Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 It’s Elf. No amount of Zooey Deschanel can save it. Will Ferrell is the most annoying comedic lead to have a prolonged stint on top. I like sad Will Ferrell and cameo Will Ferrell can be very good but him as lead I just can’t get on with. Elf is him at his worst. Yet everyone pretends it’s some classic. Second is Love Actually. Bunch of middle class unlikeable cunts. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted December 6, 2022 Members Posted December 6, 2022 The Polar Express. Absolutely atrocious. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted December 6, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2022 This fits into what I was saying on here a few weeks back about 80s 'classic comedies' being vastly overrated, but National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is desperately unfunny. Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 6, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2022 Santa Claus the Movie. Lot of people I know love it, I hated it as a kid, still hate it now. It’s a Wonderful Life,. Main character is a right drip, just lets everyone take the piss out of him and he lets them. Don’t get the love for it at all. Quote
Paid Members Fatty Facesitter Posted December 6, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2022 If anyone dares put Muppets Christmas Carol in this thread in a negative light I will be very, very cross. You have been warned. Humbug. I thought Jim Carey's adaptation of The Grinch was a bit pants. I genuinely found it hard to understand him a lot of the time because of the style of his delivery. It seemed to have a cult following during my Uni days and from people I've spoken to since but I've never gotten the appeal. Quote

I think a love of Randy Quaid (not google searched him so no idea if he’s a wrongun’)and a heavy sense of nostalgia just about rescues it for me but it definitely fits in to the bad films you like in spite of yourself list. Make no mistake though, Clarke Griswold is a terrible person. Quote
Factotum Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 I think National Lampoons Christmas Vacation has actually increased in popularity and standing. For years it was called rubbish, but the last 15 or so years its ramped up to classic status. I'll watch Chevy Chase play the doofus or dick in anything. I have to echo ELF a fun movie that has become more unbearable as the years have gone on. I just want James Caan to go all Sonny Corleone on that annoying elf. LOVE ACTUALLY is just a bad film, saved by Emma Thompson dropping a fucking masterclass of acting in one scene that somehow saves it from being consigned to the dustbin. Quote
cobra_gordo Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 (edited) It's The Nightmare Before Christmas for me. I just don't get it and I doubt I ever will although it made us tons of money back when I was working in the local goth shop. I'm fairly sure Jack Skellington tote bags paid for the owner's house. Love Actually, other than the previously mentioned Emma Thompson scene and Bill Nighy clearly having the best time, is an absolute drizzling turd of a film. Paid Members gmoney Posted December 6, 2022 Paid Members Posted December 6, 2022 99% of them? Struggling to think of many I like, aside from the aforementioned Muppets Christmas Carol. Scrooged is good as well. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted December 6, 2022 Members Posted December 6, 2022 Everyone in Love Actually was a cunt. Even Emma Thompsons character. She was just a cunt listening to Joni Mitchell. A reminder that when they filmed it, Keira Knightley was 18, Chiwetel Ejifor 26, and Andrew Lincoln 30!!! GRIM BASTARDS!!! Quote
Keith Houchen Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Love Actually is shit, so is Zooey Deschanel, the lesser Deschanel. I’m with Gfunk. Christmas films, and indeed Christmas, are total shite. Quote
