Which back in 2019 was certainly true. It was slim pickings and those four were getting showcased more than most. MJF was seen as Cody's protege, Sammy was Jericho's. Jack thanks to nepobaby status had been the marketing face of AEW's future. Darby was getting the Cody draw, Jericho & Mox competitive losses. MJF had already beat Jack and Sammy. Now he was going to beat Darby. And that was the main point about it MJF v. Darby. Online ran with it as a Mount Rushmore discussion to keep it alive to the point it was revived on screen for the eventual 4-way during MJF's title reign. Quote

I may be misremembering, but wasn’t it the ‘four young pillars of AEW’, when it was first referenced. That changes the context, really. The company’s rising, original stars - which they were at the time. Guevara was prominent quickly thanks to The Inner Circle, the fans took to Darby Allin quickly, Jungle Boy also seemed like he could be the future of the company back then, and MJF at the time was arguably their most important asset. Over time ‘four young pillars’ has simply become ‘four pillars’, but I don’t think that’s how it started. EDIT: I completely missed the fact that @Infinity Land had given a pretty full explanation of its origins. Sorry, IL - clearly my attention to detail isn’t up to scratch on a Sunday afternoon! MJF in ROH just feels all kinds of wrong for some reason, but I'm happy to see any storyline/angle feature on ROH just to mix the format of the show up a bit. His promo about 'I own America and I now own Mexico too' was shite Trump-esque rubbish though. Quote

A few matches that just didn't need to be on the show (Conglomeration vs Premier Athletes??) but overall it was a good time. Holy shit, Paul 'Wrestler' Hauser really went for it! He was in there with the right man as QT Marshall is really good at these celebrity matches, but PWH more than held his end of the bargain up. Fair play. Hechicero vs Bandido was phenomenal. Bandido is absolutely on fire at the moment. One of the matches of the year. Athena vs Mina was good, although probably suffered from coming after the mens World title match. It's odd how Athena in AEW can't really catch on when she's so good here and in her little cameos in RevPro etc. Sammy Guevara is already much improved. He was horribly miscast in the earnest babyface role and is much more comfortable reverting back to this character. He still won't be massively great - it's Sammy Guevara - but it's a step in the right direction. Also, Worst In The World Ross Von Erich actually wasn't that bad here! The brackets for the Womens Pure title tournament look quite tasty actually. Would be very happy with a Serena or Aminata win, but not if it takes Aminata away from AEW. Lee Moriarty has quietly became one of my favourite in-ring guys on the whole AEW/ROH roster. He's never really given much to work with but always gets me invested in his matches. Would actually like to see him in the Continental Classic this year as I think he could put on a fair few bangers in that format. Good show! Now imagine if they actually did any build-up to these shows... Quote
