wordsfromlee
I thought I'd follow on from Devon's film one. Plus, I know theres threads dedicated hip hop, electronic, rock/punk/metal threads but theres a lot of other stuff thats not encompassed by them. So what are your favourite records released in 2021? I've whittled it down to 25 - in no particular order (except number one): Bicep - Isles Mogwai - As The Love Continues Koreless - Agor Madlib - Sound Ancestors God Is An Astronaut - Ghost Tapes #10 Remember Sports - Like a Stone Alfa Mist - Bring Backs Czarface/MF DOOM - Super What? St. Vincent - Daddy's Home Bossk - White Stork The Hell - JORIS (A Hardcore Opera) Pt.2 Backxwash - I Lie Here Buried With My Rings and My Dresses Quicksand - Distant Populations The Bug - Fire ZULI - All Caps L'Orange - The World Is Still Chaos, But I Feel Better Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert We Were Promised Jetpacks - Enjoy The View Machinedrum - Psyconia Fred Again.. - Actual Life (April 14 - December 17 2021) JOHN - Nocturnal Manoeuvres Every Time I Die - Radical Swindle - The New World NUMBER ONE. My favourite record of 2021: Cleopatrick - BUMMER There'll no doubt be some people replying about how they haven't heard of any of the artists or that they haven't listened to any new music since the early 90's or something - as there always is - so here you go. I made a Spotify playlist of 44 of my favourite tracks from 2021 if anyone wants to check out some new stuff. Fill your boots. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted December 29, 2021 Coldplay released Higher Power this year. Nothing topping that.
Merzbow
I got lazy this year and didn't bother with a write-up for Twitter, just dumped all my favs in no order in a Topster image. I'd do a Spotify but I ditched the service and to be fair half of those probably aren't on it because I'm too TRVE and KVLT.
Paid Members Shy Dad Posted December 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted December 29, 2021 To somewhat save this thread from being stupidly long because my phone can't seem to format a list without putting a massive space in between each line on my phone, I've spoilered my list of my top 25 for this year, no real order except for number 1. Its also amazed me how varied my music taste is and I didn't expect that. There's a lot more rap and low fi on there than I would expect and even a lot of my "rock" tastes have shifted from heavier stuff to more traditional. I love threads like this because it does give me a chance to check out a lot of new artists. But my number 1 for the year being Dodie having had a think about it is still surprising. I think there's just something great about a really chilled album you can play at any time of the day and unwind to. Spoiler Weezer - Van Weezer Greta Van Fleet - The Battle At Gardens Gate Trash Boat - Don't You Feel Amazing? Mayday Parade - What It Means To Fall Apart Lil Nas X - MONTERO Olivia Rodrigo - Sour Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert Dave - We're All Alone In This Together Tyler, The Creator - CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend St. Vincent - Every Time I'm Home Every Time I Die - Radical Billie Eilish - Happy Than Ever Dirty Honey - Dirty Honey Slowthai - Tyron The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Illusory Walls Poppy - Flux cleopatrick - BUMMER Sam Fender - 17 Going Under Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror Don Broco - Amazing Things Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes - Sticky Måneskin - Teatro d'ira - Vol. I Arlo Parks - Collapsed in Sunbeams Dodie - Build A Problem
Merzbow
I really need to give that Poppy album another go, I loved some of the singles from it but overall it didn't click like I Disagree did. I dug a bunch of the Hole and Jack Off Jill like influences tho, hoping to hear more of her noise, drone and Boris fandom creep in next. Paid Members PunkStep Posted December 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted December 29, 2021 I liked Bicep's album and pretty much anything from Fred Again. I haven't listened to enough albums this year, but some of my favourite tracks of the year: Fred Again ft. Blessed Madonna- Marea (We've Lost Dancing) Wolf Alice- How Can I Make It OK Franky Wah ft. Carl Cox- We Are One SG Lewis ft. Nile Rodgers- One More Kid Laroi ft the great Justin Bieber- Stay Peggy Gou- I Go Sigrid- Burning Bridges CASISDEAD ft. La Roux- Park Assist Ghetts ft. Moonchild Sanelly- Mozambique Sam Fender- Seventeen Going Under Marea is my track of the year, it captured the mood of many, what with everything closed down for so long. Sigrid once again showing she's one of the best pop singers around today too.

Paid Members jazzygeofferz Posted December 30, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted December 30, 2021 The only album I think I've listened to that was released this year is Escapades by Gaspard Auge from off of out of Justice. It's a grower.

Mr_Danger
Til that Aesop Rock and A$AP Rocky are not the same person with a Snoop Dogg/Lion thing going on. James Acaster really should have made this clearer to me in his Perfect Sounds book.

Calls him Asap Rock, but its still better than when Liam Gallagher called Asap Rocky 'WhatsApp Ricky'
Keith Houchen
Did listen to this quite a lot. One from the top shelf from @Merzbow
SuperBacon
Is there a way of logging what you've listened to? I know there is Letterboxd for films (but its dreadful) and goodreads for books, but is there anything similar for music? @Merzbow what do you use for those graphic type things with the covers? Not after anything fancy, just a basic recording tool, rather than me just putting it in notes on my phone.
