So I've changed roles, and am happy I got offered a trial

Cannot stand my new manager, she is fucking horrible. But very much stuck because if you stop the trial during the trial period, you're pretty much making yourself redundant through the process, so have to stick it out.

I really enjoy the role, I just cannot stand her, she's been terrible. I have issues with my stomach, every single manager has known this and it was made aware to her, the other day she messaged me to say "I notice you've been away for 20 minutes" not an "are you alright?"

It was a one off and I was having a shit during the morning. Next time I'll take the fucking laptop with me and Teams you on the bog. Get fucked you busy bastard.

Got my annual appraisal on Wednesday.

We've been given a form to fill in, asking us questions like,

- What's gone well this year?

- What's not gone so well this year?

- What do you think of your leaders?

In a normal company setting these are things they should be telling me with feedback.

But they don't have any idea what I/we do on a day to day basis.

I've got an interview for a secondment for 12 months which is a level up, and a 7.5k payrise. They had to extend the deadline so wondering if they didn't get many applicants. I am worrying I'm running from my job rather than running to this but I'm just sick of my job right now. A 6 month secondment has come up in my department, which I'd kind of like to prove stuff to people but I also question why I want to impress these people.

Is there anything in particular you're sick of in your current role? Do you think it's stuff that can be worked on/improved or no chance of anything getting any better?

It's a fair question. Last year they took a huge part of my role away and gave those responsibilities to two people, one at the same level as me and one the level above. That was 8 months ago and I just haven't been able to get geed up for work at all, my performance has gone down hill massively but that's in part because that role was 80% of my job and two people now get to do it. Just felt disrespectful that I'd done it myself for 4 years and suddently two people with a joint salary of about 2.5 times mine now get to do that job. My department hasn't really found a way to fill my role, tried to get work off other people but they won't let go as we are in a restructure and they want to prove my worth. They did give me a pay rise despite taking most of my job away, so there is obviously some respect from my managers but I'm questioning my own worth and in a resturcture I feel vulnerable.

We used to get paid last working day of every month. About 3 years back that changed to the last Friday of every month. Woke up this morning to find I haven't been paid. Phoned the director this morning who looks after payroll but hes not picking up. So I phoned the other manager who said it looks like pay has been pushed back to last working day again.

I'm fucking fuming. There's only 3 employees there, letting us know when we're getting paid isn't hard. It's the least I expect as an employee. And their attitude is like 'well it's only a couple of days so what's the difference'. The difference is all of my bills and loan payments come out on the last Friday, so if I didn't already have a bit of money in my current account I'd be fucked.

Time to start looking elsewhere. Fuck these pricks.

I find it bizarre that people don't twig that day of being paid is so important. My partner's employer had their payroll fail once, and they said they would have it sorted in a couple of days. The chief exec who earns 120k, owns their property outright and has no kids thought that was acceptable. Yeah people's rent comes out on the first and many manage day to day. They ended up going to the bank and BACs transferring money to everyone that day as people said they would just down tools.

I think I've told this story before but my brother in law has always worked in IT for hedge funds, investment banks etc, and once there was an employee number mix up and he was accidentally paid his CEOs salary one month, which was just under 6 figures.

He had to tell them and transfer it back, but this was in his younger days and he was tempted just to not mention it and go travelling, but the long term issues would've been worth more than the sum to be honest. I think they gave him 200 quid bonus for his honesty. The CEO hadn't even noticed 🙃

We get paid on the last working day of each month which is a right pain in the arse.

I get paid on the 20th (18th or 19th if a weekend) and it took time to get used to. Prefer it to the weekly at my previous job, I found budgeting weekly tough when I knew i needed x amount at the start of the month for rent.

My last job switched us over to getting paid every 2 weeks, which was the stupidest pay cycle I’ve ever come across, (apart from maybe THR’s above), because none of your bills or rent is on the same cycle. So we ended up having this ridiculous spreadsheet for calculating everything based on this 2 week cycle and I never got over how stupid it was and how much extra life admin we had to do to balance the books.

Twice a year though, we got Triple Pay Month, which afforded us a little extra money (but not much and it definitely wasn’t worth the hassle).

I also had a job that paid that every four weeks, which could be a bit of a ball ache. It also means you get paid thirteen times a year, so you trick yourself into thinking you're getting more money.

Yeah as someone stuck in the weekly/bi weekly/4 week pay for the better part of the last 5 years I always tried to just play it off as 12 monthly payments with the 4 week and that extra pay day that came was always a lovely surprise and basically festival/holiday money depending when it landed in the year. Required a lot of effort to make sure there was always gonna be enough money for bills (especially depending on which way the 4 week period was working at that point of the year) but it was just about manageable.

I'd much rather be in a life where last Friday of the month is a thing in my life again though. Those days were ace for an autistic brain.

I'm paid every 4 weeks but it's all I've ever known so can't really comment on how it differs.

The 13x a year is nice though when you get paid the day after the rent is paid and then paid again before the rent is due so get an extra 1k that month which goes straight into the savings.

Same with every bill, council tax, sky bill, water bill etc where we always get one pay period for each during the year where we don't have to use any of that to pay a certain bill and just put it away instead for a rainy day

Like you mention it can vary in how easy it is to manage depending on the cycle, at the moment the rent is coming out within the 1st week of being paid but slowly that gets further and further into the pay period and got to always remember that the account looks far healthier because the rent money is sitting there etc and not to be touched but we are used to it now and manage it all fairly comfortably.

I've been paid this morning, so he can't even get 'last working day' right the useless cunt.
