It’s a very dangerous game letting on that you’re naturally funny in WWE. It never goes well. Rather than giving you more freedom, it usually results in them writing their type of comedy for you, killing you dead immediately. I predict someone is already at the Joke Shop looking for costumes and props for our new Banter King, Solo Sikoa. I give it three weeks before he has a plastic gun and a PEW PEW sound effect at the start of his entrance. The prophecy is coming true. Nothing can ever just be funny, and they move on can it? No, it needs to be drilled into the ground, and merchandised. If WWE was a person, they'd be the most annoying, charmless, obnoxious dickhead in the room. Endlessly repeating the one thing they ever said that people seemed to like. Quote

DavidB6937 Posted August 25 Posted August 25 It's a fine line. I don't think something has to be a one and done for it to be good. The whole industry is built on familiarity and repetition - from entrances to moves to catchphrases etc. It allows audiences to engage and be part of the show and know what's coming. Humour is definitely far more hit and miss though, and yeah WWE don't have a great track record of it but I don't think it has to be a complete career killer. Someone like the Rock managed to be incredibly successful based on a lot of low level humour for example. It could be exactly what Solo needs to make him stand out and get him over more despite the ongoing Bloodline stuff. Quote

I think they just have to let the naturally funny people be funny - Solo and Danhausen are funny when you let them do the little things that make them funny. Not when they produce whole segments built around what wwe reckon makes these guys funny. Truth seems to be the only one who suits this over the top wwe style humour. Quote

I think Danhausen is probably the most extreme example of pushing the humour way OTT and going full on merch hunt, but I don't think everyone gets treated like that. And I guess we don't even know what's natural and what's not - it's only an assumption. For all we know HHH might have thought about pew pew on the throne one morning. I guess we'll find out on Unreal. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 (edited) It's sort of amazing when you think about it that Regal was just allowed to do and say funny things consistently, without them ever pushing one element of his character down your throat, for basically his whole career in America. Literally the day after I posted that… Quote

It was a killer way to end the show ngl, wasn’t even hinted at be the ‘sheets either and it kinda makes sense for Keys to turn given neither Solo or LA made the save for him a couple weeks ago when Jacob Fatu beat him down Quote

It should be the definition of a throwaway comment. Something he said that was funny, then onto the next. Turning him into a grown man who does gun fingers and wears PEW PEW t-shirts is ridiculous. It was just a funny comment, not everything is - or needs to be - a catchphrase. Regal is a great example of someone who was just funny, said funny things, responded to moments authentically. Be that. The best catchphrases grow organically anyway, not by slapping PEW PEW on a t-shirt. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted August 25 Posted August 25 They look the absolute business. Three hard nuts destroying everyone. We need more heels beating down heels and faces. Just make it known they're heels. None of that shades of gray nonsense. Just three bad dudes beating down everyone because they're bad. Quote
The King of Old School Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Would it be fair to say the crowd had absolutely no clue who Key's mates were? They look good as a trio though I'll give them that. Was thinking could we have some sort of 3 team War Games match after that, Bloodline vs Solo/Knight's team vs Key's team. Might freshen up a concept that has gotten a bit dull. Think NXT did a 3 team one years ago. Imagine Keys and co will just become mates with Knight and Solo over the coming months though instead. Quote

Let's not pretend roody poo candy ass was high brow or something. Maybe it works for him. Maybe it doesn't. I'm glad they're doing something a bit different with him and allowing him to run with it because it's the most interesting anything Bloodline related has been in a while. Let's just be grateful they're not doing PEW PEW gun graphics on screen while he does it. Jimmy and Jey might get their prison cell graphics back. Quote
Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted August 25 Paid Members Posted August 25 I did wonder if the plan was to bring OTM up to the main roster after they kicked Nima out of AAA, wouldn't be surprised at a 6 man between the new group and Perros Del Mal at Triplemania as well, as he brings his mates along to fight back after they beat him up and threw him out.
