Are we referring to every bad booking decision ever as "very Vince"? Or just everything that you don't like? Vince didn't book or write everything in WWE history before he left by the way. HHH and co are more than capable of booking their own crap. Quote

Maybe. But capitalism often provides a good a service you might actually want, even if they have had your pants down in the process. The Rock is a grifter, a YouTube business coach or new age spiritual guru, the architect of a great pyramid scheme where you get nothing but ripped off and spat out. It's completely fitting that he has his own range of energy drinks and talks about being 'disruptive' openly. That's exactly the sort of fella he is. A right wingers linkedin page made flesh. Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted January 7, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 7, 2025 Rock threatening to go to NXT was the funniest part. I don’t watch NXT regularly. Does Shawn have anything hot on that brand for Rock to take a massive, ice cold piss on? HBK and Hunter inherited the keys to the kingdom, but the crimes of 1997 always come back to haunt them. I bet Bret’s smirking softly. Quote

Not only that, he's going down the "We make movies" path with waaaaay more gusto than the old man ever did. Vince just happened to suck at it as the years went on and he completely lost whatever tenuous, half-decade-behind grip he had on the wider culture. Triple H is just late nineties Vince. Pop culture aware in the way that Kane is smart for a wrestler. He doesn't watch what's on the other channels but he's at least vaguely aware of them. He's willing to meet you hippies halfway. Hey, we're kind of a cinematic universe when you think about it, aren't we? The Dunn jump cuts are gone, you can say the word 'wrestling' and the lights have dimmed a bit. Everything else is still hurtling toward the usual theme-park-of-itself sick bag. It's just undeniably hot right now. On that note not that I was expecting anything grander or different but this left me cool like some other people here. Self Congrattitude era at its absolute peak with a few traditional New Years Raw big matches and Rock and Hogan stinking the joint up. One of those 'Mania type shows that weirdly makes me more look forward to just the regular flow of TV resuming. Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 I really enjoyed Papa H saying after the show that wrestling had taken over the world, and everyone was using words like 'work', 'shoot', 'heel' and 'face' in everyday conversation whether they were aware of wrestling or not. If you like mate. Quote
Chili Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 I mostly ignored The Rock for years until he popped up on social media posting about all the good deeds he does and thought he can proper fuck off. 7 dollars in his pocket and a dodgy dad. Quote

TheScarlettChad Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 So... anything you lads liked on this show? Quote
SwayWays Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 (edited) Wasn't a fan of the kayfabe braking video at the beginning, it'd be like Arnie doing an intro for T2 telling everyone how much he has pretending to be a murderous machine with all his mates. Love Dwayne's inability not to get his shit in, posting an IG video of him leaving raw in a super expensive car not before necking his watered down piss tequila. We'd already saw his daughters and family there. So it made chuckle watching big D pretend to fuck his kids off and drink drive into the sunset..... Like who was this for? We'd just watched him break character and then cut a promo and obmit to say "... The rock..", so it left a decent portion of the audience confused. Like a lot of people, I expected more. Some of the PPV.. sorry... PLE worthy matches and feuds getting blown off to celebrate Raw moving to Netflix felt big, but I dunno.. I wanted it to feel a lot different. And I wanted to see the new open, which they didn't do for this week. In a weird way, by trying to make it feel more special I was left with the underwhelming feeling that even with a lot of bells and whistles, it was a run of the mill RAW with a new look show, that felt detached from the usual run of things. Matthew Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 I’ll go against the grain and say that I enjoyed the show. I loved the cold open, and Triple H promo. Rock‘s entrance drew a loud “YES” exclamation as his music hit, that I’m sure my neighbours were overwhelmed with. The Roman/Solo match did what it needed, and they did well, overbooking at the end and all. Cena sold me on his tour, and I now want to be a part of it, in anyway I can, even if it’s just a UK house show. Enjoyed the women’s match, even if it was a foregone conclusion of the outcome. Didn’t expect real Taker to come out and congratulate Rhea on her win. Expected that to be Temu Taker instead. Punk/Rollins had their working boots on, and was a solid match, if Punk’s weakest since his return. But that says more about the level of his other matches than an insult to this one I feel. It was annoying the way the commentary told the story for anyone and everyone that appeared, but I understand why, as I presume they’re hoping for a lot of new viewers form the switch. Quote
