69MeDon Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 I haven't watched Raw in at least five years, probably longer, and this was a real slog for me. I liked parts of it - I enjoyed the Roman/Solo match, the production value was obviously very good, Cena promo was good and Hogan getting booed out of the building was satisfying, but there was little else that I thought "man, can't wait to watch Raw next week". Maybe it would have been better if I didn't have to sit through (and then eventually fast forward through) countless "look at this celebrity" bits and what seemed like forever between entrances for two people in the same match. Yeah, I can't imagine I'm going to feel compelled to watch again next week, which is a shame because they did have a chance here to maybe try and hook me into WWE again. Quote

Everyone did. Suggesting that the company has gone to shit because of one show that you didn't particularly enjoy is just daft. Quote

I;ve yet to watch it, but is the time for entrances down to there being no advert breaks outside of the US? Or was this filled with WWE adverts in the stream i.e. clear there was a break? Quote
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted January 7, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 7, 2025 (edited) The other thing I noted was they made a big deal that on Netflix Raw would have no ads internationally so you wouldn’t miss any action (like AEW on Triller). Instead, most of the ad breaks were backstage segments or cutting to celebs in the crowds. That was disappointing. @Mowgli i posted before seeing yours. There is a brief blip when they go to ads. The UK stream just had more footage but I think only a couple of times was it mid match. The rest of the times were entrances or crowd segments. Edited January 7, 2025 by Hannibal Scorch Quote

digforvictory Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 I think their whole mentality for these milestone shows is wrong anyway. They seem to think tons of celebs and wheeling out legends to wave at the crowd is the way to go to appeal to any casual or new viewers who will be tuning in and I just don't think thats true. I know they think having Undertaker trundle out on his bike to fist bump Rhea Ripley is some huge deal but I really don't think it is. It just came off as pointless and a bit odd. As others have said they'd have been better off opening up with a mad Hardy Boyz style spotfest, or a big wild brawl or have The Rock cut any other kind of promo than a slow "sincere" speech thanking their corporate sponsors and partners. Mad exciting stuff would appeal more . I don't think there was any great hook for these potential new fans to tune in for next week, there was no cliffhanger or big new storyline moment. Obviously business is booming and they're making more money than they ever have so they're still laughing and it's not like it was a complete disaster of a show but it honestly felt quite late era Vince booked. DavidB6937 Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 Curious as to what people thought was different this week booking wise to the recent product? Beyond the Netflix stuff, and obviously more celebs etc, everything was pretty much the same.. Quote

AndyUK Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 (edited) Rock and Cody's amnesia was very Vince for sure, I thought we were generally past that sort of crappy wrestling writing. I guess the Hogan appearance had elements of it in terms of not reading the room but yeah other than that I wouldn't say anything was particularly different. Edited January 7, 2025 by AndyUK Quote
The King of Old School Posted January 7, 2025 Author Posted January 7, 2025 Yeah The Rock hugging Cody like they had been best pals for 30 years was the jarring one, even if he cut the exact same promo, that bit was completely unnecessary. Quote
theringmaster Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 The only defence I can give to the random Rock and Cody stuff is if this is the first wwe show you have watched for years, you might be really confused why the Rock is a bad guy. To me it made total sense he came out as a face. Quote
Paid Members Slapnut Posted January 7, 2025 Paid Members Posted January 7, 2025 Rollins’ entrance on this show was over 7 minutes in total. I didn’t realise quite how repetitive his music is. This was the most obvious example, but the entire show just dragged like fuck. Honestly, it was like any other Raw from the last two years, except they talked about how big a deal it was every other minute. It certainly didn’t feel like a big deal based on any of the actual content. Quote
