This is what I think will happen

Gunther wins Rumble and beats Rollins at Mania (night 1) then embarks on media tour in Europe to promote Bash in Berlin

Mania Night 1

Gunther/Rollins

Punk/Cody - winner challenges Roman/Rock on night 2

Rock/Roman

Mania night 2

Cody completes his story and Punk either turns heel or gets Rock/Stone Cold as consolation

Damien Priest, the reigning Mr Money In The Bank, is so keen on headlining Wrestlemania for the World Title he has declared for the Royal Rumble.

Urgh.

I guess you could justify it by saying it potentially gives him two chances to win the belt. Or he could proclaim that he aims to win the world title via the Rumble, then cash in on Reigns and hold both titles. Not that he’s done that yet, but I don’t think it’s the most illogical thing in the world.

Its not completely illogical, but it's just... ugh.

The idea of Roman Reigns, after holding the title for an ice age, losing the title in a cobbled together four-way just so he can have a match with The Rock at Wrestlemania is so ridiculous that I can't even believe the WWE would do it. Come on. Even if you would prefer to see The Rock vs Reigns over Reigns vs Cody Rhodes (seek help), you can't in all good conscience say that wouldn't be in the top dumbest decisions in wrestling history. It has to be Reigns vs Rhodes. Rhodes is the biggest babyface in the industry, even after what they did to him last year.

Reigns retained last year because of the Bloodline. Now they're fractured. They don't necessarily have his back. You have them stand off and turn on him at Wrestlemania, keep him busy with them for a few months, then do The Rock at Summerslam. A match of that size needs a long build-up anyway. What have we had so far? A throwaway remark from The Rock and cry laughing emoji from Reigns.

Personally would love to see Reigns smash The Rock on night 1, and then face Cody on night 2, if they are hell bent on it being at Mania.

There is no way The Rock should be winning any wrestling match in 2024 ffs.

This is the idea I'm slowly coming around to now. For Rock vs. Cena 1, they had a year of buildup. Rock would need to get 'ring ready' and Roman would need to actually promote the match. The only thing that makes me think this wouldn't be the case is that this one is 40 and surely that's significant somehow, but even then, his last two matches were at 28 and 29, not exactly stand outs in terms of anniversaries etc. Plus have they even confirmed where 41 is taking place?

Personally, I would absolutely enter the Rumble even if I had a guaranteed shot already. Why would you not want two chances?

Has anyone ever gone into a legitimate World Title match, with the briefcase as back up? That’s another cute, new way of doing it. Mr. Money in the Bank wins The Rumble, meaning he essentially gets two shots at Wrestlemania. Even if he loses, he could immediately cash in and try again!

Not that any of this matters. Damien Priest didn’t cash in on a man talking at length about how he was completely fucked. He's a moron. R-Truth is too smart to be hanging around him.

All this talk of whether it’s gonna be The Rock or Cody facing Roman at Wrestlemania. Can we all just admit there’s arguably a better option than both those lads combined?

Yes. Rollins entered a wwe title three way vs Cena and Lesnar at a Royal Rumble. His build was basically "bwa ha ha... even if I lose I'll cash in and win."

Which he didn't as Lesnar fucked him up good.

Is there any risk that Brock gets eliminated from the Rumble by Gunther, and then the next night, during the already advertised Gunther/Kofi IC Title match, Brock interferes to cost the title, and set up their match for Mania?

Not a chance in hell when they have two nights to fill do they have 2/3 of their top guys wrestling on both nights. Wasn’t the last time someone wrestled both nights those scrubs Natalya & Tamina? Wait, no… it was Miz last year doing two short comedy matches. They won’t ask that of Cody or Punk, definitely not of Reigns, and I’d spontaneously combust if Rock worked both nights. Similarly you don’t piss away Steve Austin wrestling where you won’t know who he’s fighting til 24 hours prior and the guy earned the honour by losing to someone else.

In addition during the very first briefcase reign, prior to the draft Edge won the Gold Rush tournament to earn a shot at Batista on Raw on the big “Clash of the Champions” style Raw they used to do on months where the PPV was SmackDown exclusive. I was convinced that Edge would either get help from Triple H or go crazy on Dave with a chair, get disqualified, then cash in on the wounded Animal and win the belt. He didn’t.

I sort of get this, but the other option is not to go through the grueling royal rumble match and let someone else wear the champion out at Mania before smashing them and closing the show with the belt, which feels obviously superior to me.

There’s no good way out for Priest now, he’s a moron forever. Short of turning up to Seth’s hospital with a ref.
