I wasn't expecting to like Gladiator II more than the original, but I did. Admittedly, I like the original less than most, but even so. The sequel delivered more of what I wanted from the first in some ways.

Also as much as I do (generally) like your write ups @Dr. Alan Grant, and you’re correct on Timothée, You think Inside Out, average Pixar? What?!?

It’s not top tier for me. Not in the same league as Toy Story, Nemo, Up, Monsters Inc, Wall-E and Coco. But it is far, far, far better than Cars. Pixar set a very high bar in their first 10 films, and a lot of their recent output doesn’t quite capture the magic in my eyes. I wasn’t a huge fan of Luca or Soul either. With Inside Out, ironically it didn’t stir my emotions like Toy Story does. I did love the addition of Anxiety in the sequel though. I’d happily watch both films again, but not as frequently as I’ve seen the earlier films.

I also love the use of “generally” in your post.

It’s as realistic as a wrestler being thrown into the turnbuckles and their body turning around. I’ve seen it twice and the (many) plot holes were even more glaring the second time round.

I can't imagine a world where I engage with a movie in this way. I judge a thriller based on how much it makes me hoot and holler and I was hooting and hollering throughout. 10/10

And you’re not wrong for enjoying it that much. For me When I watch a film there will always be an element of suspending my disbelief. And if that is a genre film like a Sci-fi or Fantasy, even more so. But with straight up films (like this), I need it it to be some what plausible. There were so many things which were ridiculous I couldn’t take it seriously enough. I mean I did find it funny and I did watch it a second time, I just don’t think that was the director’s intent.

Inside Out is the best Pixar film, for the record. Just ahead of Up and WALL-E. They're interchangeable though as they're all wonderful.

Toy Story will always be king as far as I'm concerned. The first and the best.

The rest are all varying degrees of excellent and impossible to rank (not including the Cars films obviously).

Genuinely forget that's even a Pixar film until someone mentions it.

Yeah I always lump it with Tangled, Frozen etc.

It was weird because just before they had The Princess & The Frog and Tangled and then the year after its release there was Frozen. It also looks more like a Dreamworks film than either of their studios. It’s not a bad film per se, it’s just not a great princess movie and doesn’t feel like a Pixar release.

As much as I think it’s great, Coco doesn’t particularly come across as a Pixar film for me. Same with Onward and Luca which I’d have guessed were Dreamworks releases.

I was just in the middle of typing up my official Pixar ranking when I noticed that I haven’t yet seen Elemental, Monsters University, Finding Dory, Cars 3 (who gives a fuck though) or Onward. I’ve only seen Brave and Incredibles 2 once and I don’t remember much about them. With all that in mind, I am going to watch the entire Pixar back catalogue in order to do a proper ranking with them all fresh in the mind. 28 films in total. I might even rewatch all of the shorts as well. Let the Pixar marathon commence!

This of course means I have to watch the Cars films again. Pray for me.

Yeah. It's not as good as those three. Or Toy Story 1 and 2.

@Dr. Alan Grant I actually thought Cars 3 was decent enough. Nowhere near as shit as Cars 2 which I saw once at a preview with John Lasserter in attendance and the reaction was mid, purely because you knew he was in the room. Trash.

I hate Onward as well.
