His 2006 live stand up DVD is well worth a watch. Well, I say a watch, it's worth flicking through - it's one of the worst examples of stand up comedy I've ever seen. It's actually quite a sight to behold. It has to been seen to be believed. No wonder he knocked it on the head for nearly 20 years.

At the end, there's even what I presume is a 10-minute spec-episode of a TV show he was working on, made to show to TV execs that (shock horror) never got picked up. Its about a Hollywood stuntman who has to move back to northern England after the work dries up. Equally as awful and I don't think the bit where he blacks up is the worst part. How this guy ever had a career in the first place is baffling.

He's note perfect as Paddy in Phoenix Nights, but I get the feeling he wasn't acting much.

I think the worst thing about Paddy McGuinness, for me personally, is how my mum tells me at least once a month that all his kids are autistic.

"You've got something in common there!"

Being Peter Kay's sidekic-I mean mate really did Paddy a solid. And yeah, he's just playing himself in PN and Max and Paddy. Very telling that Peter's called Max and Paddy's just well, Paddy. Very original, And didn't his "Ding Dang Do" catchphrase originate there too.

He's Jimmy Five-Bellies or whoever but can almost read an autocue and doesn't look like a sea creature. Whilst he's obviously very limited, I've never really been bothered by him because I've literally never watched him in anything but his Peter Kay work and when me Mam or whoever had Take Me Out on in the background.

Is he actually a decent sort? Or is a rancid Tory cunt too or something. If people dislike him just because he's shit, also completely fair mind.

He comes across as a likeable, decent bloke. I don't think he's ever said or done anything to prove otherwise, but you couldn't pay me to go and sit through one of his stand-up shows. My face is already hurting from cringing just looking at that poster.

I saw a video of Paddy trying to talk about films with Paul Scholes the other day and it gave me a headache in the short span it was on. Thick as shite.

https://www.reddit.com/r/footballcliches/comments/1xjex4w/can_we_ban_footballers_from_talking_about_non/

The top comment on there had be laughing though;

Quote
The weird thing about Scholes is he wasn’t athletic or quick, he was this short asthmatic kid who became one of the best footballers on the planet purely by his football IQ and his reading of the game. And cos he never really did interviews it was possible to imagine him going home after a game to watch the Three Colours Trilogy, or to read Camus.

And now you see him, everywhere, more overexposed than that time his cock came out mid tackle that time, making Paddy McGuinness look like Melvin Bragg, and you just think fucking hell you should have kept that mystique.

Better to be quiet and people think you're an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I think he realised he's pretty shit at standup and stayed away from it for near 20 years. That YouTube video was dreadful. He's one of those light entertainment presenters who appears on every channel nowadays. Gets presenting work because he's not a wrong'un and likeable to the general demographic. I think he's even on Radio 2 now as well.

Romesh Ranganathan is in that category as well. (Appears on everything now)

Josh Widdicombe is making inroads. Much to Stewart Lee's chagrin.

I refuse to accept his or many pretenders "omnipresence" until they do a travel show with a family member.

I don't mind Paddy at all and listen to the podcast most weeks. It comes across as exactly what it is, two out of touch ex pros chatting current football with a fan. I could listen to that kind of stuff all day.

I don't really see him as a funnyman though and can't imagine I'd pay to see him do standup.
