While we're on phones, are there any good spec Android phones available that are smaller than 6 inches? I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, and I just hate not being able to comfortably use it with one hand.

Just to save you money, you know Samsungs all have one-handed mode? Search the settings.

I have had a Pixel 6A since late 2022 that was working perfectly. That was until I received an email from Google the other day about a fault with the battery that may cause it to overheat. A mandatory software update was applied yesterday which has completely duffed the battery  (this morning charge went from 100% when I left to 34% by the hour it took me getting to work listening to music on my headphones.) . By way of compensation Google have offered me $100 cash (around 82 euros) or $150 Google store voucher.  The cheapest device on their store currently is the 8A for €459 and you also can't use the voucher in conjunction with any sale offers. Cowboys, Ted!

I've been perusing the dodgy money laundering looking phone shops right enough. Problem is most recent-ish phones are massive, only a few round the 6A's size. Saw a refurbed similar sized Motorola Neo 50 phone for around 140 quid with decent specs I'll probably get the next payday. Just annoying cos I'd no issues at all with the pixel up til now and love the size, ease of use and no pre-installed bloatware on it.

My wife has the same phone and she’s not happy about the battery now. Assuming they’ve done this so it doesn’t explode or something, which if that’s the case surely they should replace the phones.

It can be worth waiting for a cheap Xiaomi/POCO deal to pop up on HUKD etc, solid well made phones and the specs are usually just as good as any Samsung for half the price. They're they third biggest company now but have only semi-recently made a splash over here, pretty sure they have brick and mortar stores now, too.

They're offering free walk in battery replacement in the UK from 21st July.  Annoyingly just not here in Ireland where they're European HQ is, solely for tax fleecing purposes. I whipped off a reg letter requesting a battery replacement, replacement phone or a refund this morning to them. If no reply or its refused, I'll go down the small claims route I reckon.

If your Pixel 6a is an Impacted Device, you may be eligible for a battery replacement at no charge. You can visit our registration page to find a battery replacement option near you.

Starting July 21, 2025 battery replacement will be available:

  • At walk-in repair centers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India.

Does anyone have any experience of using eSims for travel?

I’m off to America next week and looking to avoid the ridiculous data charges Vodafone are trying to charge me and I can get a ‘probably way more than I need but better to be safe than sorry’ amount of data from Saily for about £13.

Am I best activating it at the airport and then turning my phone off for the flight? Or can I just do it all when I land?

I got a free Three sim and turned it into an Esim so that I can use their Three+ app for cheap cinema tickets. I use my regular sim with Vodafone and the Esim as back up. Added a 10GB data pack with Three the last couple times I've been the US. Also going the US next week and have activated it before I left to make sure it worked.
