Who would actually want to go to Villa in their current predicament?

They have potential money from the new investors, but they're not only constrained by FFP, but constrained by the fact the Chinese Doctor has placed Villa on the precipice of FFP penalties already.

For instance, this year's parachute payment they received, Xia had already taken loans out against that income and spent it. Added to this that Brucey will be taking a healthy sum for being let go, Villa are not looking good. With the rule changes to stop club's doing a 'Bournemouth' and having to show accounts mid season, a points deduction certainly looks on the horizon and transfer embargoes too.

Why would any manager be looking at that predicament and rubbing their hands together. Villa need a good few years of spending nothing to be able to spend big to get up. Or they'll face sanction after sanction.

They should go for Warnock, he can get players in for little, get teams to scrap their way out the division, only years of spending nothing or getting out the EFL will allow Villa's new owners the ability to spend.

While I agree with most of that, they do have a really good squad.  One that could easily get play-offs this season without any new signings and despite a relatively poor start (they've only actually lost 2 league games this season).

That Villa squad should piss the Championship. I adore Brucie but he wasn't getting the best out of them. I don't like them and enjoy Dev's digs about them but there isn't a more attractive job in the league.

Broadly agree with this. It's still very early in the season and there is a fag paper separating 1st from about 15th. Even if the financial wheels come flying off at the end of the season, a decent manager could come in and get automatic promotion with the calibre of that Villa squad. As Teedy says though, fuck knows what the longer term ramifications are if they don't get up.

Fair enough point but irrelevent to a manager looking to take the job. Hardly anyone lasts more than a year at that level, success or failure, so it won't be his problem.

Who the fuck takes a cabbage to a football match? What if Villa won handsomely? You're stuck with a cabbage and if the vegan thread has taught us anything it's that vegetables are pointless.

Not asparagus though

Their squad is their saving grace somewhat, however that Villa squad is nowhere near a quality where it'll be shitting the Championship. Especially with Leeds and Boro looking very strong this year

The main core of their players from last season that pushed them on have gone.

No doubt Grealish will fuck off in January if the books don't marry up for FFP reasons.

They have a squad that can compete and achieve play offs, but that's a lottery you don't want to enter. These opening games under Bruce have been a waste, they should have replaced old potato head preseason. Play Off final aside, the amount of money they spent and the players they had, failure to go up automatically was exactly that, a failure.

Did Bruce's dad die a few months ago and now his mum died a fortnight ago?  I'm sure I read that and if true, that's going to have an impact on him.

He lost his Dad some point in the new year and his Mom a couple of months after.

Boro are fucking dreadful. Very strong on paper but a proper ugly Pulis team. They'll probably go close though, they'll grind results out. Leeds are a good side but nowhere near as good as the really outstanding football team in the Championship last year - Fulham.

It's a very bland division again. Villa have quality everywhere, they've got the Grealish who should be the best player in the league, they've got proven promotion winners like Chester, Elmo and Whelan, they've got pace and power to burn through Kodjia, Abraham, Bolasie and Hogan, quality in midfield through McGinn, Lansbury and Hourihane, dirty bastards like Jedinak and Whelan again. They've got the lot. Should be ashamed of some of their performances.
