Seems it could be all smoke and mirrors to protect Harvey Weinstein and he's allegedly one of the funders of the Leaving Neverland documentary.

If you're suggesting that there's certain figures in Hollywood and on the celebrity circuit who'd look to try and divert some negative attention away from Harvey Weinstein, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I don't think the Jackson documentary was specifically commissioned for that purpose, that would be a bit mental, but I honestly hadn't even heard of the Weinstein documentary until that article you'd posted.

We've seen the kind of shit that goes on in Hollywood, and the lengths that these types will go to in order to cover up their sordid actions. Isn't Oprah quite close with Weinstein as well?

At the end of the day, Jackson's dead, so none of this shit is going to affect him, guilty or not. But Weinstein is very much alive, and when people talk about Jackson being a powerful figure, he didn't have fuck all on Weinstein. That's a guy who held a shitload of power.

The thing is uniike Saville and Jackson, all the 60's/70's/80's things were well known and even publicized. That's why nothing will happen there. That and most of these were groupies who hung about and got backstage rather then being groomed. Not sure why a 50 year old man would be sexual attracted to a 13 year old, but it seems no-one cared.

Just because it was well known doesn’t mean nothing can be done about it. Everyone knew about Jackson during the 90s and what Saville was up to during the time in the 70s but they still ended up getting done for it years later

Just because their actions were well known doesn’t make it ok.

Great points David. I do believe it will affect Michael Jackson though in terms of attempting to destroy his legacy and for the accusers to try and get a percentage of his royalties. They said they weren't paid for participating but they don't need to be if they end up potentially getting hundreds of millions from his estate in damages. TV stations have already dropped The Simpsons episode "Stark Raving Dad" and no doubt Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, YouTube etc will probably drop his music from their services.

At Sundance there was a Harvey Weinstein documentary at the same time as Leaving Neverland.

There is little to no coverage about the Weinstein doc whatsoever, especially in the British press. I believe it only aired on PBS in the US. When Rose McGowan spoke out about Weinstein they said she was crazy etc. Corey Feldman has tried to speak out about the sexual abuse that goes down in Hollywood but was portrayed as crazy etc too.

As for Oprah, yes she's very close to Harvey Weinstein, same with David Geffen and her best friend is Gayle King. Weinstein apparently paid gossip website/mags to plant MJ stories to stop his own wrongdoings make the press. Oprah said she watched Leaving Neverland with Geffen. David Geffen wanted to sign MJ to Geffen Records. Oprah of course famously interviewed MJ in the 90s. She also interviewed Katherine Jackson and his children after he passed away so she used him and his family for TV ratings yet has thrown him under the bus to protect her friend Harvey Weinstein.

I never said it's ok, I don't think it's ok. But there is difference between grooming (ala Saville) and teenage girls who purposely aimed to sleep with a musician. They were taken advantage of due to their age, but they put themselves in that situation knowing what they were doing. That doesn't make it ok, but it is not the same as what Saville, Rolf Harris etc have done

Here's a thing. He was nearly bankrupt before he died. If he is blackballed from all radio stations/Spotify etc, what royalties exactly are they going to get a percentage of? Seems to be a bit of a flaw in that argument.

So, just to clarify, you think the Harvey Weinstein documentary was killed off by 'Hollywood', and Oprah is part of a conspiracy to damage Michael Jackson's name in order to protect Harvey Weinstein?

This is absolute cobblers. Jackson had to accept an o2 Arena residency near the end of his life to make ends meet and died $500 million in debt. Widely known, verifiable facts, not some conspiracy theory drivel trotted out by some obscure blogger.

It's almost as if Michael Jackson is globally more famous than Harvey Weinstein will ever be, and that people are more interested in Jackson than Weinstein.

Also, a quick search of the Weinstein film suggests that it didn't have anything news-worthy in it, as it didn't try to show anything 'new'. Whereas there were new allegations and information in the Jackson one.

Since the Weinstein case has pretty much nothing to do with Jackson, I'm struggling to see why conspiracy-theorists might zone in on 'them' in Hollywood and someone with the surname 'Weinstein' and try to portray them as puppet-masters of ... oh, wait, I got it.

His catalogue is owned by Sony. He didn't even make any money off Thriller Live theatre productions, so chances are that whatever's been made since his death wouldn't have gone to him, and anything that his estate has got since then probably wouldn't have been made if he was still alive.

That isn't the point though. They aired both documentaries at the same time yet one documentary has received a gigantic amount of press (Leaving Neverland), whilst the Weinstein one hasn't even registered on the radar. If we're drawing attention to sex abuse then both documentaries should have been equally highlighted.

That Harvey Weinstein is good friends with other high profile people shows he has enlisted their help to cover his back. There's 80 women who have made allegations of sexual abuse and harassment against him. Yet as soon as Leaving Neverland come out there's nothing really about his forthcoming court case.

Call it conspiracy theory whatever, but if you look further into this, as I have, then you'll find a lot of supposed conspiracy bullshit does make sense. Case in point

I wonder how much it cost to maintain that ranch he lived in. Its pretty much a big theme park on his land. You have to have people there all the time to sort out any mishap with the rides. I just imagine him and Bubbles getting stuck up the Farris Wheel like Richie and Eddie if there was no people to work all the rides and trains and shit.

Weinstein's career is over and he's about to go to court. There's not much to discuss right now, but it'll probably blow up again once he's in court. If Jackson was alive, his career in ruins and about to go to court again, the Neverland doc probably wouldn't be of as much interest. It's almost like the media goes on public interest.

"That Harvey Weinstein is good friends with other high profile people shows he has enlisted their help to cover his back" might be the dumbest sentence ever written in this forum.
