If you’re all for the views of Bernie and AOC, Biden isn’t your boy. Surely even Bernie and AOC are taking a day to celebrate though before getting back to work.... As I say, it’s celebrating Trump lost. Her Twitter today has been rallying the troops to step up the progressive voice within the Dems.
Paid Members Kaz Hayashi Posted November 7, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted November 7, 2020 A bit off topic, but this gives me hope that we can also get rid of the Tory scum too. There’s just a sudden realisation that the earth isn’t absolutely completely utterly fucked.

The Gaffer
It'll definitely be interesting to see how the Dems progress out of this. There's already been a bit of apparent infighting over the less than expected performances elsewhere, which has been attributed in parts by a shift towards more progressive (socialist/far left, depending how ingrained in the American political spectrum you are) attitudes. That seems like the death paean of the old guard though, in a sense. As centrist as Biden is, and as much as this was a vote for "The other guy", I think it'd be foolish for the Democrats to renege on some of the more progressive elements of their camp now. Their presidential mandate has gained the highest number of popular votes ever, for a campaign at times portrayed as being slightly to the left of an early Manic Street Preacher's record sleeve. Four years is a long fucking time for now, in terms of electorate age. Eight is even longer. Stick to your guns and press ahead.

Stick to your guns and press ahead. Its almost as if having two parties to represent an extremely large and varied country doesn't work... One thing the Republicans have done well is to hold their noses, or be snide enough, as the core of that party changes to go along with it - just take a look at the last 4 years, you really saw very little shit talking of Trump from the GOP once he got the nomination, but leading up to it the tone was very different as at that point he was the outsider. Compare that to the dems who seem to want to all agree on what it means to be a democrat but really have quite different ideas, compare the likes of Sanders to Biden, and then ultimately end up doing a bunch of infighting. The US really needs at least 4 parties, staunch right (current incarnation of the GOP), moderate right (which could arguably include some current democrats), moderate left and progressive left (AOC etc). But that'll never happen because no-one wants to take that risk at the polls.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 7, 2020 Moderators Share Posted November 7, 2020 (edited) Yeah it doesn't even work here in a much smaller country so no surprise it doesn't work there. Tories are worse at not in-fighting than Republicans it seems, but it doesn't matter because Labour are fucking hopeless. Â PS I think that Cheney thing is bullshit btw. Can't see anything close to resembling a legit source for it anywhere. Edited November 7, 2020 by Chest Rockwell
Moderators PowerButchi Posted November 7, 2020 Moderators Share Posted November 7, 2020 (edited) Tories are great at not infighting to be honest. How Theresa May lasted so long is only because a Tory will hold on for their cause. Probably as it is likely to benefit the fuck out of them. But traditionally, they'll hold their nose and stay together.  Labour will cannibalise each other at every step. Edited November 7, 2020 by PowerButchi
The Gaffer
Watching archive footage of Obama's inauguration. George and Laura Bush arm in arm with Barack and Michelle like they're welcoming them into the set of a sitcom, H.W. and Barbara Bush donning Willy Wonka colours to represent the melding of Dem and Republican. Call it political pleasantries, co-habiting in a deep state conspiracy, a genuine relief at the exchange of executive power; but it's impossible to imagine anything close to this happening in January. It really does make the period between now and January a fascinating bit of pop cultural intrigue, if anything else. The most boring things that could happen are either Trump shaking Biden's hand or him no showing the entire inauguration, and both of them are equally batshit.
