WWE SummerSlam 2016

I quite enjoyed SummerSlam I have to say. I don't know why anyone felt the need to watch 6 hours of it in a row though, but the main card went by reasonably quickly for me considering it was four hours.

The opener was a lot of fun, it's crazy how over Enzo and Cass are. If Jericho and Owens are sticking around as a team then probably the right finish, especially if they take the belts from The New Day.

The Miz needed to keep the title and Crews isn't ready. Maryse was bloody amazing.

Not a fan of Ambrose or Ziggler, but the right result. Ambrose v Styles with Styles winning please.

New day match wasn't good at all, but it was about what I expected.

Styles v Cena was fantastic I thought. Styles has been a revelation since he arrived. We all knew how good he was but he's put in the performances of a lifetime from he's arrived and recieved the push to match.

I might get a bit of flack for this, but here goes: I normally skip all the divas stuff on Raw/SD, but end up seeing most of the PPV matches as I sometimes watch with a mate of mine. Well this was precisely why I always skip them. It was dramatic and with loads of 'moves' which fir years we didn't have with the womens matches. But jesus christ, I think they are bad. If this is the best they have to offer then i'll be skipping them for another year. I just don't get it. Sloppy as fuck and botchamania everytime I see one of their matches.

Reigns v Rusev was the right way to go after doing it on Raw. A great slug fest and beat down, and I actually thought the plan looked to be to turn Reigns heel from it. Though with Balor's injury that may well have changed.

I enjoyed Balor v Rollins although I do get everyone's gripes with Balor. I've only seen a few of his big NXT main events before and whilst he's a good hand, and it's refreshing to see them really go with someone early right off the bat - I'm very suprised that it's him that they have strapped the rocket to. Shame though about the injury, for him and the company. He was fresh and had fresh options to face and now it feels like it'll be straight back to Rollins.

I love Brock and still am not bored of his carry on the way some others are. I'm sure they didn't mean to have his murdering spree carry on for as long, obviously it was meant to come to an end at Mania 31, however none of the guys currently on the main roster are the right guys to put over him. Some of them could have been but anyone that has been involved in the 50/50 can't be reheated to that level in my book. I'd have Joe or Nakamura go over him down the line as they haven't been damaged yet. Orton myst be hurting like crazy. I'm certain it was the planned finish, and went almost just as they had planned apart from a bit more blood than they would have liked, but my god is it risky. Just not a safe thing to do. I wouldn't mind Brock murdering Shane, but keep it to Survivors or something and then have Joe hunt him after that.

It's a stupid move that Buckle Bomb. All risk for not a whole lot of reward.

the buckle bomb I can accept, the barrier bomb? totally stupid and being worked into way too many of his matches

my main gripe with the buckle bomb is actually that Rollins does it. why is he powerbombing people? just not a powerbomb guy, if that makes sense. if Owens did a buckle bomb it would be cool as hell.

JBL gave the result away in the Cena/Styles match.  He shouted "he's just beaten Cena" while the ref was only at 1.

If anything it actually made me think Cena was gonna kick out. It's one of the oldest wrestling tropes, dude.

From Michael shouting "Cena's got him!" to McMahon's "One, two aaannnd no!"

Can't help thinking I wish someone else had got Balor's push (if Zayn - though yes he's an "underdog" so not the type to hotshot a title to - got this type of showcase I would be over the moon), but it's an exciting precedent going forward to see a trigger well and truly pulled. Decent enough match, though hated Balor no-selling that superplex so he can do his running around pointing at top turnbuckles. I'm not the biggest defender of Proper Selling in wrestling, a lot of the time it's a low priority for me, but these two make it really obvious. I thought I heard chants of "Ba-lor sucks" during the match, but I'm assuming it must have been "that belt sucks" after reading here. To be fair, it does suck a bit. It just looks like the women's one. Fans are dicks to focus on and chant that, but WWE should take note and revamp that shit.Result may be null and void and I'm really not on either guy's bandwagon at all atm so, whatev.

In fact, I've just seen Mickers say it's now been relinquished. LOL. Ah man, if we get auto-Rollins I'm not gonna be happy at all.

Erm, spoiler?

Not really, it's all over the internet. They announced it before Raw, and it's hardly a big surprising result or anything.

Agreed, and it was a point I'd been meaning to bring up. I've felt for a long time wrestlers should have their strengths and weaknesses. When Mourinho's Man U face Guardiola's Man City, I know that Mourinho's side will likely cede posession and focus on quick transitions whilst Guardiola's side may dominate posession and look to overload the midfield whilst having his wingers create width. I know roughly what I can expect from the teams and there are intriguing questions about how the teams will focus with the other's strengths going into the match. Without spoiling much, the UFC fight was great and had a great story and the fighters have different strengths. Cena is massive and Rollins is quick. Why is Rollins doing buckle bombs to Cena? Why is Cena doing Code Reds to Styles? The dynamics and the story is hindered by it. They should be specialists in their strengths, not a jack of all trades. Like Top Trumps, Cena's strength should be higher than Rollins' whilst Rollins' pace should beat Cena's.

Another gripe, Rollins has been a heel for over two years now. I know he was injured for some time, but why is he still a heel? He's clearly more suited to being a face with his offence. I don't think he was as bad for it in the Balor match from what I remember but he doesn't tend to wrestle like a heel. He still has the Pedigree despite it looking shit and having no affiliation with Triple H anymore too.

Cena busted out the code red shortly before or after Styles had done a couple power moves to John. It made sense in the story of that match that while both specialize in one main skill, they can pull surprises out of the bag. Cena's smart enough that the code red is just something he Can bust out, rather than part of the repertoire that gets showcased every week on TV like Rollins' powerbomb. And I'm not totally anti Rollins having power moves as he is clearly a very strong dude, but powerbombs are a special move, they should only be used by the most imposing looking guys, and running also does not make them cooler.

He did a Phoenix splash for crying out loud!

Was this the first time you've ever watched wrestling with the sound on?

OK then give me another recent example of an announcer saying somebody has won a match after a 1 count.  I'm not talking about their usual excitable predictions during a pinfall, I mean blatantly give the result away?
