I didn't want to start an entire thread for this and seeing as Hayabusa was an FMW and deathmatch legend it fits here?

Zero One have announced a new Hayabusa being played by as a yet unknown wrestler... I'm personally not a fan of doing this but he'll be starting in April against former FMW mainstay Masato Tanaka.

Some pictures of the current incarnation, he's got some size to him and the rumours are it's Astro playing the part but he must have bulked up since last wrestling in 2023.

I've seen a decent DVD version of it semi-recently but yeah this is a great get, crazy how Jun Kasai is still going with the wild stuff he does.

This match along with Zandig Vs Nick Mondo were iconic of the era, everyone into hardcore wrestling had that TOD 2 event on VHS it seemed and like an idiot I was always showing it to mates who'd never seen the style before.. pretty sure I've watched it in our own @MoKonjic place back in the mid 00's.

Was the Nick Mondo documentary any good ?

I haven't seen the 2017 one but the old 2004 documentary was fine if very much an amateur film. They're both on YouTube though.

Happy Birthday to Onita's stupidest idea in 1992, the infamous tornado fire deathmatch!

There's no real match thanks to everyone nearly dying, as they totally screwed up how to actually have fire ropes, Puerto Rico had a similar gimmick for years but it seemed like they just guessed how to do it instead of asking anyone from there.

Also, does anyone know what video this alternative commentary with Sabu and Candido is from? Looks like RF.

I'm sure the series was called Behind Closed Doors from Rf, I used to have a Steve Corino one and a Dreamer/Raven or Dreamer/Sandman Dvd where Dreamer kept getting called fat.

Jesus f'n Christ.. El Desperado and Jun Kasai just finished their "friendly" deathmatch feud in what could actually be my match of the year, regardless of genre and stipulation.

El Despe being allowed to take this journey from 2022 onwards has been magical, while being one of the best Juniors on the planet he's also transitioned into a master of hardcore and this has been low-key one of the best slow burn stories in wrestling. 10 Bret Harts, 10 Snowflakes, 10 on the Muta Scale.

Hosted on NJPWorld if you have that or below.

I cannot wait to check that match out! Did you see the triple threat with Despe vs Kasai vs Takeda back in March? That was absolutely insane and apparently this match even tops that!

I love Despe with all my heart. Like you said he's one of the best Juniors out there, so you get to see that side of him in New Japan. But he's also a true sicko and loves the glass.

I'm working through Big Japan 2025 at the moment and there have been a couple of highlights. They did a show in Taiwan which had Takeda vs a rookie that was really good. The same show also had Jun Kasai in a tag - he's 50 years old but wrestling like he's 30 at the moment. Working with Despe has lit a fire under him

Big Japan have announced that AKIRA will defend the Deathmatch title in an "Under The Sea Deathmatch" in August. I got all excited thinking they would go full cuckoo and we'd have two blokes in the sea with snorkles, but sadly it sounds like they will just litter the ring with shells and fish hooks! Ah well i'm sure it will be good, I have been enjoying AKIRA's run so far
