They continued trying to argue after I pointed out that I have a standing direct debit with the NSPCC which is slightly more useful. Â I've now been tagged in it, so far nobody has mentioned any actual donations because 'it's to raise AWARENESS' as if nobody has ever heard of cancer before. Called them on it, best I can see is that it's Prostate and Ovarian cancer month and it's all about the changes in yourself.. No fucker wants to sign the cervical smear age reduction epetition. Managed to spark a reasonable back n forth with one young female who had at least a few brain cells bouncing off each other and it was all going so well until she won the argument for me. Â If that's what you're saying then I guess Movember where guys who grow moustache to raise awareness for prostrate cancer is pointless too? That started off as social media awareness cause where you updated every day your progress of your moustache however many males don't actually do it for money donations or mention cancer either? Did a bit of research, and I now know more about cancer and ways I can help then I did before. Â It's hard for people to talk about things like cancer, so if things like this can break down a few walls and get people thinking, talking, helping or donating then it's all good. The vast majority of them are information-less selfies taken because their friend did one and they want and 'awww you look gorgeous Hun' comment on it. Chucking a vague 'it's for cancer' disclaimer on it doesn't make it any less of an excuse for narcissism. Â The fact they are so lazy is what's annoying. if there was even the slightest effort to share a link to signs to look for or a donation page it would be a more than worthwhile exercise. Cancer doesn't need awareness, everyone knows what a shitty horrible thing it is, the causes, symptoms and treatment need promoting and this isn't doing any of that. Â I think you nailed it on the head. This past year I did Movember for the first time, which consisted of me wearing silly costumes and showing off my ever growing mustache. Â However every weekly picture was followed by a request to sponsor me and a link to my donation page. Â I did get accused of being annoying... but ultimately I raise $400 (about 250 quid at the time) so the exercise was worthwhile. Â There's a fine line between vanity and actually raising awareness.... but the distance some people miss that line by is astounding. A load of pictures of my female friends without make up would have made me want to find out more regardless, either online or the next day at work. Isn't that how viral campaigns work? Â The negative reactions to this are actually good. Would all the detractors have posted pictures of the donation text number without the flooding of the pictures? Â Some people have suggested that some girls are only doing it for there own vanity, and again if it promotes discussion then I don't have an issue with this.
