Dirty Eddie Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I think that was when we took Emmerdale Farm's lead and shortened the URL from www.wrestlingukfanforum.com to www.UKFF.com. Doesn't take so long to read. Good work Spudgun.
Paid Members Linus Posted September 18, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 18, 2015 14 years ago today this incarnation of the UKFF was launched, which is why many of us have 18th September 2001 as our joined date. I think that was when we took Emmerdale Farm's lead and shortened the URL from www.wrestlingukfanforum.com to www.UKFF.com. Doesn't take so long to read. A lot of things were different back then, but a few things are still the same now: Big Show was stinking up the WWF mid-card, Shawn Michaels had been retired a few years, and Jeff Jarrett was looking to start up a new company to rival the WWF. There's still quite a few of us around from that time (even if I did go away for a bit). What have we done with our lives???
Paid Members Tommy! Posted September 18, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 18, 2015 Does any one keep in contact with JLM?
Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted September 18, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Why doesn't Woyzeck post more? What a man. Wasn't the guy that played Cowabunga Yoshi Kwan from WCW? Edited September 18, 2015 by bAzTNM#1
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted September 18, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) I think it was Mark Curtis/Brian Hildebrand, who passed away in 1999 — mainly a ref, gets a loving tribute in Foley's first book. Had a very memorable fundraiser in 1999 — https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Comes_Home EDIT — nope, apparently that one was Chris "Yoshi Kwan" Champion. They both had that gimmick! The King of Old School Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Rusev and Owens could have been good heel main eventers over the next few years. Somehow, they have managed to turn them both into a right pair of chumps.
The Dart Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 Just watched Jeff Jarrett's 1997 WWE return. So odd. He trashes WCW, which he returned to 2 years later. He trashes Debra, who joined him in WWE a few months later. He trashes WWE for the Double J gimmick which he starts using again soon after. He trashes Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart and Steve Austin (in character) but never ends up doing anything with any of them. Weirdest part is halfway through a fan throws a Scream mask at the commentary table, which Vince McMahon picks up and puts over his face for a second or two.
Paid Members WWFChilli Posted September 20, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 20, 2015 Watching SMW TV 1992. Ron Wright as a heel manager is one of the best things ever. He's absolutely sublime.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 20, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 20, 2015 That promo was something else. It died on its arse so bad it should have been referred to as "pipe bombing." One of those shoot promos that nobody give a shit about. Had to be Russo's idea. I remember Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold confronted him afterwards, because he tried to get himself over by legit burying them. He was fucked after that promo.

I remember he had a fairly dreadful match with the Undertaker on the Dec 97 IYH: DX PPV. That can't have done him any favours. Plus his music went "There's All The Great Superstars in the WWF.. And Then There's Me!" which did the exact opposite to the point it was trying to make. Shortly thereafter he was Double J again, and WWF Magazine did a "sometimes moving forwards means going backwards" piece to try and explain it.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted September 21, 2015 Moderators Posted September 21, 2015 Jeff Jarrett's 1997 theme was solid fucking GOLD!
Paid Members WWFChilli Posted September 21, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 21, 2015 Jeff Jarrett's 1997 theme was solid fucking GOLD! Too right it was. I can't put my finger on what type of music it is, the new Mignight Express had an awesome similar theme.
Guest Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Rusev and Owens could have been good heel main eventers over the next few years. Somehow, they have managed to turn them both into a right pair of chumps. Rusev is terrific, he really is but people expect a Bulgarian Brute gimmick to have serious longevity and main-event potential in 2015? I'll pass, thanks. You almost can't blame them for running a shitty romance angle. Apart from that you'd be doing one 'YOO ESS AY' angle after another.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted September 21, 2015 Paid Members Posted September 21, 2015 Or they could book him as a brute who happens to be Bulgarian? Then you'd have no reason to do the foreigner vs America storyline.
