Ah for Fucks sakes.

MMA Fighting are speculating that Nate will remain on the card, no word on a potential replacement yet though.

Conor McGregor. 😂

He had called out Al Iaquinta and Kevin Lee for UFC 230, but has said he’s now not ready to face Nate.

Diaz-fear is real.

‘Unspecified injury’ now sets off a massive USADA alarm for me, with the current rules about non-disclosure. Which is a shame.

Helwani -  'What's next now that Dustin is out of UFC 230?'

Diaz -  'I'll just fight Khabib when he's ready'

I think that fight would offer the longest odds in a UFC title fight, surely? Diaz would just get tossed around like an empty coat.

Yeah, Diaz isn't the first guy I'd think of who has the skills to take on someone like Nurmagomedov, even at 170. At welter he might have the power to put him away where McG couldn't but at this stage and from what we've seen, that's still too much of an ask.

If he wasn't in the nadir of his fighting career and at the age he is, I'd say Demian Maia would offer more of a challenge.

Whilst I fully agree Tony deserves the shot by far, I've been pondering this morning and I'd really like to see Khabib v either Kevin Lee or Brian Ortega at some point.

I'd like see if Lee would wrestle with Khabib - has he ever been taken down in the UFC? I cant recall. Or how Ortega's BJJ would get on with that type of pressure on top of him.

Khabib seems such an absolute force. It feels like the Anderson Silva or Lyoto Machida puzzles from years past, only this one looks even fucking harder and you've probably got a few pieces missing. Who can get to this guy?

It's difficult - the main reason why I suggest a BJJ specialist might have a better chance against Nurmagomedov than most is I'm going off the example of Cain Velasquez, who's a similar type, and looked similarly unstoppable at one point - and who also, upon analysis, could be seen to be vulnerable to those whose most dangerous position is on the ground. Wrestlers who specialise in either suppressive wrestling or ground and pound might find they come unstuck against guys who've made the ground their home. Sort of like Batman vs. Bane.

Yeah, but Cain came unstuck because he got clipped behind the ear by JDS, then ran out of gas due to not paying enough attention to the altitude in Mexico, didn't he?

We've just seen the one guy who was most capable of applying said clip behind the ear of Khabib try and fail. The UFC need to book Khabib vs Tony.

In Mexico.

Werdum was absolutely schooling Cain on the feet in the 2nd, with Cain looking like me running for a bus, by the end of the round. Cain's corner, between rounds, called on him to immediately try and shoot for a takedown, because Werdum had Cain's number on the feet. Of course, it was a silly idea against someone with Werdum's jiu jitsu chops, but that's how badly Cain was doing at the stand up.

Werdum did look like the GOAT on that night, but then Stipe.

Two different fights, no? And I was under the impression no-one was really buying the altitude excuse any more, anyway? Can't claim to be 100% sure about that, though.

But my point was Werdum is one of the best BJJ practitioners in MMA, and he effectively turned Velasquez' best weapon against him. If there's anything that might come close to an exemplar for beating Nurmagomedov, it'd be what we saw with Velasquez/Werdum. Obviously, the two aren't exactly the same, and Nurmagomedov's level of dominance within his respective division is almost certainly much higher than Cain's, but given that he's never been beaten, there's only so far one can theorise.

I've never seen Khabib even look like he puts himself in any position where he could be subbed, at all. And that's coming from someone who watches grappling religiously.

I would say that the only person who could beat Khabib would be Khabib himself, but I'm not even sure if he lives a lifestyle that will give him issues as he gains in popularity? Outside of someone catching him with a shot behind the ear and sending him onto crazy legs I can't see anyone stopping him.
