Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 30, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted December 30, 2015 Here's a bit of a weird one. My good lady and I are going to have a takeaway pizza tomorrow night because we don't want to go out anywhere. Her favourite place to get stuff from is too far away from us to offer delivery, but rather than settle for a shit but closer alternative, I thought I'd drive down to the good place and pick everything up while she's at work so it's at home for when she finishes. It's a half hour drive. Are there any decent ways or tips to stop it getting cold on the drive back so I don't have to (i) reheat it once I'm back or (ii) have to resort to the close but shit alternative? Â (I know the correct answer is 'how can you overthink takeaway pizza this much', but it's very rare we have takeaway, and even rarer that she'll suggest it, so it's officially a Special Occasion that therefore warrants overthinking)
Paid Members Jaffa Posted December 30, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 30, 2015 Buy one of those beach barbecues, light it, chuck it in the boot and place the box on top. Oh, and drive carefully. Â As you can tell, I've got no practical advice but I wish you a wonderful evening. Enjoy HG!
Undefeated Steak
Throw some tin foil over the pizzas and tape the pizza boxes to the dashboard and turn the heating up full whack. Not tried it but I'm convinced this will work. If you've ever left anything on your dashboard while you warm the car up then you'll know how hot stuff gets on there. Your car will smell of ham and mushroom for days but at least your pizzas will be hot.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted December 30, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 30, 2015 Try and beg one of those insulated bags from them, on the promise that you'll be back.
Retro Red
The foil idea is sound I reckon, get one of the extra wide rolls and wrap each of the boxes in it when you pick it up.
Rey_Piste
Shove it in the foot well of your car and blast the heating on the feet.

Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 31, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted December 31, 2015 Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm going with the foil, I will turn the car heaters up, I managed to find an insulating bag that should retain some of the heat, and I've filled up a hot water bottle for the 'mamma bird' effect. If that doesn't work... Well, I tried!
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted December 31, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2015 My dad used to get us Mcdonalds sometimes and he'd put it under the car bonnet by the engine to keep warm til we got to a forest or something to have it as a picnic. Looking back on it it doesn't look that attractive a proposition.
Paid Members Tommy! Posted December 31, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted December 31, 2015 My dad used to eat bacon and egg cooked on a shovel in a train firebox. Â So he claims any way. It doesn't sound nice but I bet the bacon would be amazing.
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted December 31, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted December 31, 2015 It kind of worked! It wasn't hot but was warm enough to get through. I pronounce it a half success.
