Not downplaying the victim's experience, but it seems to be a one-off incident from twenty-odd years ago - something Popbitch suggested is that the catalyst for it all was likely the Huw Edwards dramatisation airing, which makes me think that someone has been sitting on the story for a while waiting for the opportune time to launch it, and that the intended response wasn't "oh no, this national treasure turned out to be a wrong'un" but, by making sure it coincided with reminding people about Huw Edwards, it would be "bloody BBC, they're all at it". It sounds like they were in a difficult situation - he was quizzed by police and no charges were brought. I genuinely don’t know what you do in a situation like that. If you suspend him, you’re potentially pre-judging guilt. You’re also outing him as the person being investigated. It took some time for the investigation to be closed too, so you’re potentially ending someone’s career simply by taking the decision to suspend them. On reflection, a suspension probably was the right move, but I can understand why they didn’t do it at the time. The BBC can be hammered for some of their decisions, but I don’t think this is one of them - it’s very much a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ situation as far as I can see. Quote

John Moffatt had a good run as a radio Poirot, and he's just as good in this. This one's got quite a few stars in it: Francesca Annis, Sian Phillips, Desmond Llewelyn, Joss Ackland, Sylvia Syms, Frank Windsor, and André Maranne. Shot straight to the top of my 'shit Radio 2 presenters' list. I used to think she was quite irreverent and funny but has now morphed into the most banal 'mumsy' presenter going. Every interaction is all that 'beautiful', 'gorgeous' bollocks but really overdone to the point it feels patronising. She's dreadful. anyway, as you were. Quote

Probably can't do the same kind of stuff on the breakfast show where parents are getting the kids ready for school as you can at drive time when folks are on the way home from the office. It's the whole Mark & Lard situation isn't it? Everything got sanitised somewhat at half 3 when the kids had finished school. Quote

The truth is, its the same show she does these days, regardless of the timeslot, and the warm, fuzzy, mumsie stuff is exactly what the target market want when listening to Radio 2. Quote

Every time a slot opens up to present a show on daytime Radio 2 I pray that they approach Mark & Lard for it, although they're both doing great with their 6 Music shows. Quote
