Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 14 Author Paid Members Posted January 14 (edited) I know why they do it (concussions are bad) but I hate when a wrestler hits someone in the gut with a steel chair to then hit them on the back. It's so unnatural and immersion breaking. Either fucking blast them in the head with it or heaven forbid do something else new, creative or interesting. Edited January 14 by LaGoosh Quote

I think it was Hangman on Hobbs last week where he smashed him across the shoulder with the chair which looked like he was aiming for his head and missed. I feel very much the same about weapon shots and punches these days. If you can't do it properly then don't bother. Do something else. I'm over weapon shots tbh. I'd quite like to see them be banned and return to heels just using whatever they can sneak into their gear. Some brass knucks, a bit of chain, etc are more believable and safe. Quote

Paid Members Supremo Posted January 14 Paid Members Posted January 14 Feels like we’ve gone full circle with weapon excess. Unless you go absolutely fucking mental and start drinking each other’s blood, nothing means anything at this point. Bring back Jerry Lawler pulling out a handful of nothing from his tights, making you believe it was a concealed weapon. Quote

Paid Members BomberPat Posted January 14 Paid Members Posted January 14 I love Bryce; long been my favourite referee, and I've learned a lot from him over the years. I prefer my referees to have a bit of personality to them than to be interchangeable blank slates anyway, but whenever anyone accuses a ref of show-stealing or pulling focus I think of Tommy Young's response to those criticisms - if you're focused on what the referee's doing, how bad is the wrestling? Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 14 Paid Members Posted January 14 I can barely ever remember noticing Remsburg or Aubrey during matches. They're hardly Slick Johnson stripping off and headbanging. Quote
RedTwoster Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner, but my biggest bugbear at the moment are pointless name changes. If there’s no copyright issue, why bother? WWE pick up Mariah May and Ricky Starks, both big names for AEW. Heck, Mariah was arguably involved in the match of the year for 2025 - and one of the best women’s matches ever. Why change her name, unless it’s something she desperately wanted to do? Same goes for Ricky. I absolutely hate the name Ricky Saints, it feels very much like it’s plucked from 2010-era TNA, when they were forced to change the names of WWE-pick ups for rights reasons. Sometimes they make it work - they did quite a good job explaining Lexis King’s name change, and I can understand wanting to reboot him, creating a level of distance between him and his duff run under the Pillman Jr name, but even then I suppose it’s ultimately pointless, not providing any real benefit to what it a juggernaut of a company, while removing the ability of a wrestler to cash in on their name post-release, should that happen. ‘El Clon’ in AEW is a slightly different case, but signing someone with a unique look, only to mask them up and remove what sets them apart is a weird decision. My guess is they eventually plan to unmask him and have him work under his previous look, but we’ll see. If they don’t, I’ll add ‘unnecessary rebrandings’ to my gripe list. Quote

Here I am watching the football, ooh X are moving towards the goal and they're going to cut away and show us footage of a team turning up for their scheduled match later? Thank you for this shocking breaking news! Looks shit and small time rather than big time. Quote

The only ref who's ever truly annoyed me is Rick Knox. He looks so fucking gormless standing there doing fuck all. Quote

There'll be an inset of the teams for the big 4:30pm kick off getting off the coach! Quote

Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 14 Paid Members Posted January 14 It's to ensure they have the IP, as they can trademark the made-up names and also to ensure that when they leave WWE, they don't dine off the name they were famous for in WWE - particularly when moving to a competitor. Ricky Starks and Mariah May are both their real names - just about - so they can't claim ownership of them. Quote
