I also wouldn't give Mone another title especially the Women's World, straight after dropping the TBS belt. Firstly she needs a break, there is a better story to be told for me of her bouncing back (Alan) and fucking hell, imagine the cunts online if they did. Bayne is the only option I'd have entertained, though they seem to want to put a bit more into her duo atm. With Thekla you have Julia/Skye doing their corny twins from the shining spooky bollocks. I like that Thekla doesn't really indulge in that, she's just a cheesy euro goth club heel without all the spooky fingers and all that poppycock. Edited February 23 by Chili Quote

They certainly made their bed when it came to ending Storm’s title reign, but I do think they made a mistake in not building to an end to her reign that resembled the Hollywood ending or Moxley losing to Hangman in scale. It feels like a waste of what was one of the best ever title reigns in AEW’s history. I’m not convinced Thekla is the right choice to build up, but time will tell. I’d love for her to succeed, and maybe this will be the making of her. I don’t think they can or should give her a short title reign if she’s to gain anything from this. She has to be treated as a real force. Quote

Yeah that's something that should have happened, if Statlander was going to get the belt, whilst she did defeat Storm eventually, the actual title change should have been a one on one thing. It would have felt a lot more significant and more cementing for Statlander. Quote
organizedkaos Posted February 23 Posted February 23 I think the problem with a big build for a face taking a face's champion is it's a fair risk the crowd turn. With a big heel champion you're working on wanting the face to win, to finally put down the bad guy you're sick of seeing being on top. With a face, you're hoping the challenger story has been done well enough that people get behind them over possibly the most over person in the company I don't think it's impossible but the chase kind of has to be about Statlander wanting the belt not wanting to take the belt from Storm. Not out of the realms of plausibility given that storyline would fit Stat who's been a very popular almost ran in her AEW tenure. It'd take some clever delicate booking work ensuring the bulk of her ascension is done by defeating big heels to get to number one contention. You want a big feeling of momentum and the idea she's earned it, but also you've got a fighting champ who takes on all comers so you sort of need a reason to keep Stat and Storm apart as to build. Again, it's doable but I think it's a bit of a minefield. They took the easy/clever way out. Multi person match so people are cheering Stat throughout because they mostly aren't too worried about Storm losing. Flash "anything can happen" pin means people are too suprised to reject the decision. Follow that by having Statlander do a big face thing with the (at the time) biggest heel in the company, Mox. Storm is taken off screen for a moment then has fairly well placed distractions (oh look new belts!) Quote

I hate the Megabad name. With the Ancient Greek theme Megan Bayne has going on they should have a team name related to that. Call themselves The Pantheon or something. Quite surprised they haven't booked Pac vs El Clon yet. And Okada pretty much disappearing from television outside of a couple of backstage segments and one Collision match is very weird. In the Autumn/Winter of 2025 he was getting a decent push and was one of the highlights, had real momentum behind him. Very odd, indeed. Couldn't really care about Hangman/MJF. Hangman dropping the title so early into a lame duck title reign really cooled him down and the Scurll stuff finished him off. I feel like they should be announcing something with Swerve before the show. Give his heel turn a bit of hype! But I know that doesn't fit AEW's usual M.O. of doing stuff then not really mentioning it and making everything feel completely unimportant. Quote

TK does rather have a tendency to get a lil stuck on a booking trope and use it multiple times (not necessarily a terrible thing, just means you get some weird syncronicity in chunks of AEW programming). Right now it seems to be the face beating a heel challenger and then losing the rematch... Quote

At the risk of sounding like a misogynistic drooling pervert, the AEW womens roster has an incredible amount of uniquely fit people on it - Willow, Harley, Bayne, Queen Aminata, Toni, Mina, Penelope, Hayter, Thekla, Statlander, Skye Blue...pretty much all of them really. And they're all extremely talented too. AEW are not doing anywhere near enough to promote their womens division as a main selling point of the company as I think it could really take them to the next level. It shouldn't be too difficult to highlight "hey, our womens roster is filled with brilliant wrestlers oh and in case you hadn't noticed they are all INSANELY HOT!" Quote
