I don't want them to do the "I'm a super-serious pro-wrestler now" schtick but knocking about with Swerve, getting some decent music, bringing something to their matches and not relying on the same act will be interesting to see. They'll either smash it or end up like the Hurt Business or Mal Black. The frustrating thing is, The Hurt Syndicate could be absolutely brilliant, and they’ve shown glimpses of being exactly that, like Black they seem to have self-sabotaged. I’d love to know what the MJF payoff was originally supposed to be, there’s no way it was what they ended up doing. It’s unfortunate we’ve not been able to see Lashley having slugfests with the likes of Brody King, Moxley and Hangman, but if they’re unwilling to lose - which their tag title reign very much suggests - what can you really do? It’s not worth having people like that around. Kofi and Creed don’t strike me as having that kind of attitude, and I think there’s a high chance they’ll end up being brilliant additions. Quote

Agree with all of this. The Hurts had a moment in time when they were the obvious next tag champs and they were massively over. A bunch of fun. I dunno what happened afterwards, beyond the rumours, but to go from the tag title run and the long running Lashley/MJF stuff that never delivered to often being off TV for weeks on end is certainly odd. Their latest appearances have been a damp squib. I don't think Kofi and Creed have that level of delusion in them but I dunno if I would have said the Hurts, Mally or Miro did. I'm more worried about Tony's shiny new toy fascination. Once you've got the debut and a few big matches out of them, I'm not sure there's much left of interest. I can definitely see a couple of years on their contract after the interest has wained and TK has moved on to something else. Quote

I guess the thing with them is that they were really reduced to doing random promos during ad breaks and pissing about with Grayson Waller towards the end of their WWE run. They really fell off a cliff after the initial heel turn for some reason. They just seemed to get sidelined and weren't a priority at all - but I guess that's the tag division all over. So realistically whatever they get in AEW is going to be better. They've got a whole roster of fresh opponents. They'll probably get some good opportunities out of the ring too. So even if they're pushed for a bit and then settle into the pack, they're still doing something and I think guys like them and Ricochet etc feel like the move is worth it just for that reason alone. You never really know, but I suppose the difference with Kofi and Creed compared to the latter two at least is that they've actively chosen to leave, whereas Black and Miro were released, with clear aspirations of returning. I'm not really sure what the logic is with the Hurt Syndicate. The Usos may have main evented Wrestlemania but in spite of that, I'd still say there's no such thing as a main event tag team in WWE. Heck, you can evidence that with the fact Road Dogg suggested the AEW tag titles were 'beneath' The Gunns. Tag teams aren't viewed in that way. In AEW, Kofi and Creed can absolutely become a main event act, much as FTR and others did. There have been situations in which wrestlers have debuted in AEW and quickly disappeared - The Inspiration and MCMG being recent examples of that - but I don't see that happening here. Tony Khan gets accused of liking 'shiny new toys', and I've made that suggestion in the past myself, but the more time has gone on, the less I feel that way. If someone disappears there always seems to be a reason, he just doesn't go public with it. Eddie Kingston was dealing with his mental health, Britt Baker was allegedly causing disharmony backstage, Miro was outright refusing the creative he was offered while others had seemingly made it clear they did not plan to renew their contracts. Assuming there are no backstage issues, I reckon they could be about to go on the tag run of their lives. Quote

I've always thought TK struggles to pivot when new talent becomes available. He sees the benefit of signing them for the hype and pop but pretty much goes back to what he'd already been booking before they showed up. Quote

Just saw Alverez report that All In has shifted just 30 tickets in the last two days. I guess 44k is even out of the question at that rate. Bizarre because they shifted 1k tickets earlier in the week in one day. The go home show was disappointing but the card is still crazy stacked so I'm still hoping it gets closer to 50k even if it's unlikely at this point just because it's bound to be an incredible show. Sitting at 43,845 as of 5 hours ago so I reckon they'll hit 44k but not go much higher. Considering they only set the building up for 45k from the start you'd imagine they're seeing this as a success. Quote

They'd have taken that for the first All In but it did incredibly well. Nothing is getting anywhere near that again, especially on an annual basis. 43.5k would still be the third biggest non-WWE attendance a US company ever drew on their own, behind only the previous two. It really is not to be sniffed at. Whether it's a financial success, I don't know. The gate is approaching $6m. Plus another 6.5k in the Hydro and the merch sales on 50k people and PPV buys or subs. They clearly like running it for the prestige and it's probably well worth it for the revenue and the publicity that it brings. Chipping away at getting the AEW name out there. Given just how much and how long the WWF/WWE brand has been THE wrestling in this country, any other company selling 43k tickets will always be a feat. Makes me wonder what WCW could have done at their height if they'd had a clue. Quote

She’s charismatic, and could absolutely be a very entertaining mouthy jobber-to-the-stars who fans eventually get behind. If you’re going to sign someone, you’re as well as to find a use for them. They definitely sold more than 30, that figure came from WrestleTix but they did have a note alongside it saying it had been adjusted as seats they thought had previously been sold had come back on sale. Lets hope they do a better job promoting All In with Collision tonight... Quote

True, but there's something to be said for pumping people up anyway. I'm going tomorrow and caught up with that latest damp squib go home Dynamite and it's not exactly got me chomping at the bit. Obviously not telling you how to feel but I do think the whole "go home" thing is another Meltzerism from a long time ago that needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. If your work is not done long before now, you're not selling 40k+ tickets and you're not making good money on PPV. It would be great to peak right in time for the PPV but you've got to peak when people are making travel plans really. WWE have less need to so, IMO, because of the brand loyalty and the subscription model but AEW need to work harder, earlier and generally do quite well. It does really show when they don't really have the marquee or the card and are relying on their reputation for delivering on the day. Quote
