I haven't set a regular alarm since they were born. I like getting a bit of a breather in before the madness starts. To wake up and go straight into the parental chaos when you're half awake and groggy is absolutely brutal. Quote
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 27, 2025 Moderators Posted November 27, 2025 I totally get it, but I value any extra minutes of sleep too much 😁 Quote
deathrey Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 Yeah, the bliss for me is waking up of my own volition on a Saturday or Sunday morning and realising both kids are still asleep and I've managed to just wake up when I wanted to, and can in fact go back to sleep if I wish too. I think once I got up and got ready before the kids woke up, which was nice but sleep is nicer. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted November 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 27, 2025 having a quiet pint with a good book is one of life's great pleasures. If I've arranged to meet someone, if I can, I always try and get there a good half hour early so I have time to sit and read first. The other is just nature and wildlife in general. Seeing a fox. Watching the ducks on the local pond. Seeing a squirrel eating an ice cream cone like how a man would. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 I'm very much a sit and listen to the waves at the beach person. That's where my simplest and calmest pleasure is for sure. Even if it's cold I love just being able to walk down there and clear my head. Quote

This year we had some work done to make our conservatory much more heat efficient and it's really nice to sit in there now. As a result I'll work in there sometimes when I don't need to be plugged in to my big monitor.. the other day I downed tools for a good five minutes because a woodpecker flew in to our garden and I was lost in just watching it hop between the tree and the lawn. Paid Members FLips Posted November 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 27, 2025 Running water. Not a tap or anything daft like that, but garden water features, fountains, becks and streams, even fish tanks. Could watch and listen to it for ages, very relaxing. Reminds me of my Grandad's fish pond when I was a kid and you could hear it through the window at night. Quote

Think I've mentioned this before, but my Dad moved house last year and his new garden had a fishpond. Within a month he'd ripped it out and replaced it with Live Laugh Love slabbing. What on earth was he thinking. You can't beat sitting in the garden in the summer reading a book. Absolute bliss. Quote

Bruce85 Posted November 27, 2025 Posted November 27, 2025 I’ve got an electric heated mattress topper which I turn on 10 minutes before bed. Getting into to a nice warm bed in the cold winter months is bliss. Quote

We're in the suburbs, but still manage to see squirrels, foxes, owls, bats and even badgers. Any sighting brings out such a childlike glee in me. Quote

Paid Members Wretch Posted November 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 27, 2025 That is a gorgeous dog. I haven’t read the rest of the thread so I’m sure it’s already been mentioned, but a quiet pint or two by yourself. Currently sat in a boozer having just finished work doing exactly that before I head down to Forest in a bit. I’ve recently learned how to play Sudoku, so doing that at the kitchen table at 6am with a cuppa is something I really look forward to. I’m actually giddy going to bed now because I’m looking forward to it that much. Quote
