I honestly thought my friend had been done over by a fake news article when he text me to say Ozzy had died.  Absolutely fucking gutted.  So glad he got to go out on top with the farewell show, but it doesn't make it any easier to process.  Devastated.

It was great that he managed to keep going and get that send off in the way he did.

While I never took the time to properly give him or Sabbath a listen, I could still comfortably name a dozen songs of his that I like. To make it to his age, with his lifestyle and illnesses is nothing short of a miracle, and to get that final send off is as good as a way anyone could ask to go out. 
I hope he rests well and my thoughts go out to those on here who are gutted by this.

There will be others in this thread who will, I'm sure write some really lovely posts and memories of Ozzy, Sabbath and the music, but I just wanted to say how much I loved The Osbournes.

I was a very miserable teenager, and that show (along with Jackass) was a genuine highlight of my week, and made me laugh an incredible amount, and keep the darkness from the door.

I rewatched most of it not long ago, and it's still very funny, and Ozzy is always the main reason why, unknowingly mostly

A genuinely hilarious man as well a musical icon. God bless you Ozzy.

Like a basic bitch it was obviously Paranoid on some compilation album that exposed me to his music after knowing of his infamy as a bit of character. Obviously brilliant, funny, completely fucking barmy, proper working class, awful wife, some absolutely blistering records in his CV and more lives that several cats.

Honestly I expected Ozzy Osborne to eventually be the oldest human to ever live, THEN die, as it seemed to be the kind of mad shit he'd somehow pull off given he should have really been dead before this forum existed. An absolutely fascinating man, love the bloke.

Just saw someone make a good point about Ozzfest, and how important that was for launching new bands, as another part of his legacy.

That's really knocked me for 6. I watched the Villa Park gig on PPV what two weeks ago? At the time it really did feel like a goodbye performance. He couldn't stand but he still managed to knock it out the park on vocals.

I saw Sabbath play once at a Hyde Park along with Faith No More, Motorhead and Sound Garden. Depressingly Mike Patton from Faith No More is the only lead singer left alive.

I don't know if this was subconscious or what but about two months ago I showed my 15 year old daughter The Osbournes from out of nowhere. She thought that they were suitably mental and found him very endearing. Enough to be really interested in the Villa Park PPV and watched a bunch of it with me.

Really happy we did that together now.

Shit, I didn’t even think about that concerning the other bands singers. That is depressing. That was the only gig I saw Sabbath play. Hell of an undercard.

Legitimately shocked by this. I mean I knew he wasn't doing well overall but seeing the show just a few weeks ago he looked far better than I expected both on-stage and off. The definition of a music legend.

In early 2002 at 16 I started working part time at the co-op, I worked Saturday evenings on the lotto kiosk. It was myself and another lad Chris who was a couple of years older than me. At the time I was mostly into Brit-pop and Indy music, Chris was really into his metal music but we got on like a house on fire. 
 

Chris asked me if I wanted to come to Ozzfest at Donnington park with him, I recognised a few names on the bill and knew who Ozzy was but I wasn’t overly familiar with anyone but I thought I’d go along as i loved going to gigs and Chris and I always had fun when we hung out. 
 

Before the festival I wanted to look the part so went to the market and got some knock off road baggy skater jeans, some DC trainers, a studded belt, wallet chain, and the most low budget knock off slipknot hoody you can find. I got temporary red hair dye and did my hair in nu-metal spikes (I’m so fucking glad camera phones didn’t exist back then!). 
 

We got the coach from Oxford, leaving around 5am to get to the festival, much of a day is a blur now but I remember seeing mad capsual markets, drowning pool, cradle of filth (I’d never heard music like this before but thought they were so fun, I also remember it absolutely pissing it down during there set), slayer, SOAD, Tool and then Ozzy himself. Chris had lent of some best of compilation so I knew some of the Ozzy hits and a couple of the black sabbath songs but was blown away by him, he had an aura about him and the crowd loved it. 
 

Since that festival my music taste changed, moving away from Indy towards the heavier side of music. Although my love for metal over the years has had peaks and valleys, Ozzy and Sabbath have always been played regularly. 
 

I’ve had the privilege to see both Ozzy and Sabbath several times over the years including seeing Sabbath do an intimate download warm up show at Aylesbury, and Ozzy play the o2 academy in Oxford. I was also lucky enough to be at the final show a  few weeks back which at the time felt so special but after Ozzys passing seems even more special now. 
 

Ozzy and Black Sabbath helped shape my music taste, but it also helped to shape me into the person I am today. The man was special, there will never be another Ozzy. The world will be a sadder place now he’s gone but his influence will be felt forever.
