If there one extremely minor nitpick I have about the incredible Canadian Stampede entrance it's Anvil coming out to Alundra Blayze theme. Only because I'm partial to that lovely New Foundation/solo Anvil '91/Heavenly Bodies theme and it really would be a chef's kiss for me.

IYH: D-Generation X is absolutely rotten, again saved by the two final matches.

We've gone from a svelte sub 2 hours where it doesn't matter if there is some shite as its only 2 hours to me skipping so much bollocks.

The gang warfare stuff is the worst, as is anything involving LOD. Life is too short for me to watch Triple H vs Slaughter (although the end was quite decent) and Butterbean vs Mero was skipped as well. I did enjoy Brian Christopher vs Taka though. Lovely looking belt as well, and I completely misremembered the result so was nicely surprised.

Austin/Rock is what it is, pure late 97 WWE and nothing wrong with that, and the main is decent too, Shamrock looking strong. 

Now for the aftermath. Absolute gold. Owen appearing and absolutely paggering Shawn off the apron is incredible shit. 12yo mark me believed it was all real and unplanned and Owen lays his shit in. Its thrilling to be honest.

IIRC they cut the legs off Owen straight away which is a shame as that could've been a really good feud.

Also I'm ashamed to say Lawler popped me twice this show. Him to JR "Your Dad took you aside one day and left you there" and "Do you know why Disney land in Japan failed? No one was tall enough to go on the rides" 

I'm not proud of it.

Much as I hate to admit it, but when Lawler was on form he was really funny.

I can’t for the life of me think which show it’s from or who he’s saying it about (probably Stu Hart), but I love his line of “*Insert Name*!? He’s so old, when he started wrestling The Dead Sea was only sick”

Yeah, IYH: DX is wank. Most of it’s a right slog and even the way the show looks, haven’t seen it in years and I might be misremembering it but I just recall everything looking really dull and dingy. Coming off the back of the Montreal Screwjob with this was jarring at the time. Austin kicking major Nation arse was one of the only saving graces. Shawn’s black and green DX tights in the main event were great too actually. But the undercard (Taka vs future Sexay aside) was awful. That bit with Goldust and Luna doing “green eggs and ham” felt like it was never gonna end.

I might give the Shawn vs Shamrock main event another look actually because, aside from the Owen post-match beatdown, my only memory of the match is this…

Always used to happen. I remember watching WrestleMania 12 and my cousins were over to visit. Two lads and a girl. The one lad is the same age as me and loved wrestling so he was watching with me. The girl wasn’t arsed either way but the older lad always went out of his way to take the piss whenever we were watching or talking wrestling. Fin Martin described it as “In Your House : Disqualification X” on account of the volume of non finishes. The worst for me was booking themselves into a corner doing Jeff Jarretts first match back when you might hope to be able to present him as a big deal, against The Undertaker, who you have a hard time beating because (a) high profile story with Kane (b) expected to be the WWF title challenger next month (c) it’s the fucking Undertaker. Yeah IYH:DX is absolutely rotten. Though as previously mentioned in a few posts that Taka/Brian Christopher match is really fun and while not a Cruiserweight big spot showcase, it's a really good opener. I forget how proper wicked the Michinoku Driver as a finisher is. Shame they just seemed to give up with Taka, I'm not misremembering him not being over am I? He was pretty popular in 1998 until that heel turn. Speaking of, seemingly not having him fight his way through Kaientai seemed a waste too. But look who was booking.

Yeah IYH: DX is an all-timer for everyone from the writers to the production crew checking out early for Christmas. Even as a kid it was one of the first shows where I was able to see that with complete clarity and be able to hold in in contrast to that oft-repeated company line that they try and outdo themselves each time. 

There's so much Gorilla footage - in the era of archive and Gorilla footage being unearthed and carefully curated - that we'll never get to see that I want to see, which is just what Vince, Patterson etc were doing during nights like these. Are you telling me he was micromanaging some of the undercards on shite like this? They must have had their feet up on the desk playing cards. 

It really is a jarring pause in the emerging attitude and momentum between Survivor Series and the 'Rumble. 

Fortunately the next IYH is much, much better. A big house, killer main event and hoss galore on the undercard, from what I recall.

IYH:20 is actually quite fun yeah, with the exception of The Godwinns/Quebecers which is an astonishing choice of match for a PPV. The pace is bloody glacial.

Whenever I was watching 01-04 Smackdown on Sky One as a kid I would leave the room when the women's stuff came on. I inadvertently created a reputation for myself as a lad that loved his workrate and was never bothered about seeing the women, to the point my Mum mentioned it to my wife once so now she thinks I wasn't arsed about stuff like that as a teenage boy either. Really I just didn't want to watch that with my Mum and have to explain it to her.

Unfortunately I had no escape the night I stayed over my Grandparent's who had proper Sky and let me watch Raw and it was all the Hot Lesbian Action stuff. 

I really wonder sometimes why I ever told anyone I liked wrestling.
