That Steph/Jericho alliance in 02 was really awful. They didn't even do an on screen romance angle to half explain it (I'd imagine H nixed the idea like the he did the Angle one in 00) instead they had Jericho picking up Steph's little dogs turds instead. What's worse is Jericho still had to knock around with her after Mania 18 too. Looking back though, I'm delighted Jericho's big run was saddled with that rubbish, because he's such a gobshite these days!

They chucked Heyman with dullard Cesaro and dullard Hennig's son around that timeframe too. Was never going to work. Heyman wasn't needed with Punk either really. Man had no issues cutting a promo, unlike Cesaro and Hennig.

Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara as 'The Sons Of Texas' in ROH are pretty painful at the moment. Less to do with Dustin and more to do with Sammy being woefully miscast as the earnest good ol' Texas boy. They are horrible mismatched.

Darren Young and Bob Backlund might be the oddest pairing I can remember and didn't work at all. Peak WWE 'The Content Years' booking that they didn't even attempt to make sense of.

Following on from this, Triple H and Stephanie had a good run in 2000, but it felt like any other time they were on TV after they botched the end of the Kurt Angle feud in summer 2000, that they were just terrible. That awful Authority period seemed to last for ages with no pay off. Months and months of 2 dullards talking about how what they were doing was best for business.

Hogan and Jimmy Hart never clicked as a pairing for me, why did Hogan need to have the Nasty Boys manager with him?

Love me some Roddy Piper but while he was over big style as a heel commentator with Crockett, I absoloutely despise his early 90’s run on mainly WWF Superstars commentary.

Game of two halves. SummerSlam 90 is a prime example of confusion where he's openly critical of numerous goodies including former mortal enemy Hulk Hogan, and seems to actually be cheering for more recent rival Rick Rude to beat Warrior for the title. He'd be far more palatable once he remembered that everyone loved him and he should just be a straightforward babyface (his work at Survivors 90 during Bret Hart facing the 3-to-1 disadvantage and nearly winning, probably had an impact on Bret becoming my first favourite), but there's no doubt he worked better with the Gorilla than with Vince. Which to be fair, was most people. Vince was rotten as a commentator.

Remember this dynamic duo?

In the very unlikely chance you don’t, it’s Eric Escobar and Vickie Guerrero - one of many attempts WWE made to replicate the unexpected magic of Edge and Vickie Guerrero as a pairing.

It was very short-lived, and for good reason. Then we had…

Dolph_Ziggler_and_Vickie_Guerrero.jpg
Doloh Ziggler and Vickie were so ill-suited, they decided to reinvent Dolph - because clearly the problem was his hair. This generic look lasted mere weeks, before he went back to his old look.

But it wasn’t just WWE who screwed up with a Vickie Guerrero pairing…

For me, this is the moment things started to go wrong for Andrade in AEW. His early appearances in AEW, with subtitled interviews, were quite good - but Vickie dragged him down to the point he’s still not really recovered.

But it’s not just male wrestlers that Vickie has dragged down…

For me, Nyla is one of the most underutilised wrestlers in AEW. She’s decent in ring, and solid on the mic - the last thing she needed was a manager whose mic skills were actually worse that’ll hers. Vickie made everything Nyla did worse, and it’s such a shame, as it almost certainly contributed to her plummeting down the card.

The only thing I remember from Piper on commentary, and I'm not sure it's from this time was when he was supposed to be doing commentary on Saba Simba and he just kept laughing and going "That's Tony Atlas" and Vince trying to keep him on track to no effect.

Another pairing that grated on me was Mr Perfect and The Genius. I never really got the Genius - weird, high flying, camp character that he was. His little rhymes and the odd way he spoke annoyed me no end. I think Perfect would've been more of a credible threat to Hogan late 89/early 90 had he not been lumped in with the gown wearing twat.

We sadly didn't get too many examples of this choice pairing, but if you thought Judo Al and Mooney were awful...

WrestleFest 88 was the nadir - IIRC, it was all three of them.

LOD 2006.

Animal and HeidenSHITE

Made worse with the heel turn on Animal. Wasn't he then dubbed "The Road Warrior"?

In 2005 or 06 I took a sign to a SmackDown taping that read HEIDENSHITE. I was third row hard cam side. Thought I was hilarious getting that on TV, before a member of the security team was sent to tell me that they didn't want to see it.

Can't fucking believe people are slating Lord Alfred in this thread. You should be banned.

Definitions of worst innit. Entertainment value and his Lordship pisses on almost everyone in this thread. That his entertainment value was entirely derived from being fucking useless makes it a fair shout.

Maybe a bit harsh because they were subjected the usual anti-Japanese racist caricaturing but they were still TV hell, compounded by Kenzo Suzuki being the absolute drizzlings in the ring.
