WWE Vault Appreciation Thread

Ive just done a once over of the output over the last couple of months. 'Vault guy' has definitely had his hours shrunk for Vault related activities, hasnt he? Its free material so cant complain, but the difference in the obscure stuff from the last few months compared to the start of the year is night and day.

They've tended to go through themed weeks, so maybe we're due a New Generation week or 80s house show week, or whatever. 

Saw they uploaded a Headshrinkers vs Michaels and Diesel tag title match recently, which was interesting as had never seen them work. And... it doesn't, really. I'm not sure Michaels wanted to be there. Seems a Coliseum Video match that got scrapped.

One of my earliest WWF memories. Is of the Stearmboat vs Jake Roberts fued. Looking forward to watching this. It seems to be a early 2000s DVD doc.

2010. I remember picking it up in one of the Silver Vision sales a couple of years later before the licence moved over.

Watched the Flair match. It's obviously a differet era and we know a lot more but Flair's tricks for talking to Scotty are so obvious. At one point, he just puts his hand over his mouth. Genius.

Yeah, I’m not gonna complain about Scott Steiner content on the Vault but I did think when I saw they’d specifically titled it ‘Big Poppa Pump’ that it’d just cover that part of his career. Yet the first sight of bleached Scotty is almost an hour in.

I haven’t seen the Flair match in years but wasn’t that the one where Scotty claimed Flair sabotaged him somehow? I know it could be just because he hates Flair but I remember there being talk of some fuckery going on. Can’t remember the details.

It says a lot about his WWE run that all they could include was his debut at Survivor Series 2002, which was great, but they edited out his “GIMME THE FUCKIN’ MIC” so it doesn’t quite hit the same. And the Test match from Bad Blood where Scott falls off the apron. Still pisses me off how his WWE run played out. I know it was partly because of his foot injury but Triple H insisting on them doing 20 minutes on PPV right out the gate certainly didn’t help. He never recovered from that.

It's not out and out sandbagging, buts it's certainly not the match you'd expect from Flair to get over a hot potential singles star.

Aside from the insistence that he work a twenty minute Triple H match (the same problem they hit with Goldberg - almost makes me think Triple H was making up for missing out on the Invasion by finding time to bury WCW talent after the fact), the main thing I remember is that for the rematch at No Way Out Scott Steiner was wearing tights with stars and stripes on them. The show was in fucking Montreal, Scotty!

That’s my hazy memory of it. After seeing how he went out of his way to make Luger and Sting for the three or four years previous, that Steiner match was nothing like that. Could also be partly that Flair was at war with Jim Herd right around that same time as well but it wouldn’t surprise me if he just didn’t fancy giving Scotty much shine. Bret always says that him and Flair were having great matches initially in the WWF until Vince put the belt on Bret. Then he says Flair started pulling weird shit in their matches after that and calling flukey looking, out of the blue small package finishes for Bret in the middle of them building heat before Bret could even make a proper comeback. It kind of tracks with the Steiner thing a year earlier. And it seems the type of sneaky shit Flair would do if he had a problem with someone.

The very last match with RVD is crazy to watch, to see how within a few years he went from the 98/99 monster, to an absolute shell of a performer. Its like when you had a create a wrestler in a video game, and removed the move lists when editing them, as Steiner is 95% kicks and punches in the RVD match.

I agree though, this should have just been a 98/99 comp.
