The depressed teenager in me has fully awoken for this. 
 

Tori Amos - Smells like teen spirit. Oversings it but quite beautiful. 

Sinead O’Connor - Sacrifice. This reminds me of some very low ebbs. Gorgeous though.

I'm not sure if Aurora started it or it pre-dated her, but there was an awful deluge around I think the early 2010s in supermarkets and adverts - it may have all been one cheap to license Not-Aurora - of someone doing loads of covers in this put on sounding mermaid at the coffeeshop voice. It did my head in at the time. 

Anyway, I love moody covers apart from that. This is the WrestleMania X-Seven of them, surely:

Any excuse to post everybody's least favourite my favourite band also. Early HIM had a ginormous moody chug to them though that this cover has:

This is also surprisingly good. Wish they were doing more of it and leaning less into "Bumblegum pop, but it's a witch!"

Karine Polwart, a criminally unknown Scottish folk singer, seamlessly stitches Smalltown Boy and Here Comes the Rain together in this belting set.

She's fairly big in folk music circles - but folk just isn't as popular as it used to be, sadly. Unsurprising to hear her doing a great job with these, she's always had a tremendous voice and style about her.

First thing that sprang to mind was this

Liz Hodson also does a stunning version of Aint No Sunshine but I prefer this

Not as moody as my other two suggestions but fuck it, I love this version of Sea Of Love.
