Weird, quirky or coincidental things in wrestling

I liked his match against CM Punk when Punk made his ECW debut. I'm not sure I've ever watched anything else by him that wasn't Aldo Montoya.

This was an extraordinarily badly booked match. Why would the fans cheer for either? Especially given that babyface Lance - the less charismatic of the pair - basically just looked motivated by petty jealousy that his mate had grabbed an opportunity without running it by him first. Pretty weird choice when what people wanted was to see Dreamer get his revenge.

I know why he did it, it was because Lance had an eye on WCW and he wanted to get a high profile job out of him to someone who was staying. Because petty politics always proves the strongest creative force of all.

Coincidentally, during Ric Flair's tenure as head booker with WCW from 1989 to 1990 the booking committee he led consisted of FOUR people with the name Jim.

I think the match was originally advertised as a 3 way with Dreamer too so even more understandable that the fans didn't care about it. On top of that it directly followed an insane Tajiri/Steve Corino match, Rhino murdering Lori Fullington and RVD/Jerry Lynn so they had even less reason to get excited.

I didn't know what thread to post this in, but it is a "weird thing in wrestling".

Check out this match from an indy show at the weekend for weirdness.

Al Snow & Kal Herro, managed by Marty Jannetty vs. Damien Sandow & Santino Marella, managed by Doug Basham, with Braun Strowman as the referee.

The show also featured Armando Estrada, Scotty 2 Hotty, Rhyno and Frankie Kazarian.

That sounds like a show I'd really enjoy these days. A few hours of family friendly fun full of old midcarders is far more appealing than a load of indie darlings and Japanese imports. Give a foam hand and a raffle and I'm in heaven!

I was disappointed to read the match wasn’t in fact Scotty Too Hotty vs Rhino. You already know what kind of story they will tell but it’s the kind of match I’d love to watch on a small show in person. Much like a D’Lo Brown vs Hardcore Holly will have happened a few times on WWF TV and made zero impact, but live was the highlight of a Saturday lunchtime hangover show in Preston many years ago.
