ITV's Celebrity Wrestling from 2005. Anyone remember this?

Recommended Posts

I saw on X, The Getty best Brit pics showed a pic of Piper at the premire for this show. I have zero memory of it. Anyone remember it?

Every ep is on youtube. D-Lo Brown is on there too!

Yes, IIRC it went out opposite Dr Who and got next to zero ratings.

So much so that the final episodes were moved to the graveyard shift.

Despite never having seen any of it I seem to remember Iwan Thomas winning the mens competition and James Hewitt being a contender.

Yeah I never watched it but remember it being a thing. It was on fairly prime time on a Saturday early evening. I think Kate Lawler may have been a contestant on it?

Yeah, it wasn't just "opposite Dr Who", it was "opposite the return of Dr Who after 16 years off screen".

The joke at the time was that it featured neither celebrities nor wrestling.

I vaguely remember this and not being very impressed at the time either. The main highlight for me being the late Roddy Piper’s involvement.

There was a D-Lo Brown vs. Joe Legend match at Universal Uproar in Coventry which was off the back of this show too I think.

FWA did the "Celebrity Carnage" tour around the dates the show was aired - the only link being the they booked Joe & D'lo.

I have distinct memories of this being an Alex Shane joint, I at least remember him spending time at his training school talking about how he was bringing wrestling back to ITV and this might not be perfect but it was the start of a relationship. We all watched the first episode and I don't recall anyone watching the second.
