Would that be a good idea though? A massive show like that and they basically fake advertise a title match?

No

Feels like something WWE would've pulled in the past maybe but as AEW are trying to win audiences - both live and on TV - it would be a bit mad to pull something like that wouldn't it?

Absolutely

Isn't Bryan Danielson retiring at the end of the year? If so, you put him in big, marquee matches and try to make money off him, not put him in with someone who the majority of people don't know, care or who hasn't wrestled in years because they had a feud in some high school gym many years ago.

He did win the world title in the main event of their biggest show of the year on pay per view in front of their second biggest audience of all time three weeks ago, if that counts.

They’ve not specified when Bryan will hang up his boots - just that this current run will be his last run as a full-time wrestler.

To be fair, a Bryan has had plenty of marquee matches recently - and will continue to do so. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with them doing this match, even if the way they announced it was just plain stupid and avoidably weak.

It’s unfair to act like the McGuinness match is only for the hardcore diehards with  ROH VHS tapes (although that is one hundred per cent the person who booked it). Nigel’s more than put the work in. He’s been running this angle at the desk for at least a full year. The problem is that after teasing it for an eternity they shot their shot in the messiest, weirdest, most abrupt way possible. Something has to have changed. Whole thing felt like a mad, rushed re-write.

Even Nigel’s promo seemed cobbled together last minute. He almost made it sound like Oasis were going to play him to the ring live. They better hope not! If they thought paying for, “Final Countdown,” was pricey, wait until Noel and Liam arrive at Arthur Ashe and their dynamic fee suddenly triples!

Worst thing of all, about this crazy pivot? I think Danielson vs. Darby would have been a better match than we’re going to get with McGuinness. McGuinness looked good at Wembley, but he didn’t  look that good. You bait and switched the better of the two dream matches!

So he may or may not retire.

If there's a chance he retires anytime soon, as a company you make money of his name. He can't have many matches left in him with all he has gone through and if he needs neck surgery again.  It seems pointless to waste him for this.

Who's it for then? Put the work in where? I rarely see him, is it one of their B shows he been doing this in?

He’s said it will be his last year as a full time wrestler. Then he’ll be part time. He won’t properly retire for another couple of years.

Thank you for clearing that up. So he will wrestle here and there, hopefully used as a star and not in matches the majority have no interest in.

Isn't Bryan basically the number two guy in charge? I've heard before that Tony has put an immense amount of trust into him and would have him run things if anything happened so I'd imagine that he has a lot of say in how he goes out, he's Hulk Hogan.

Yeah it's a story they've been building on Collision and every PPV Nigel has commentated on for about a year. If you don't watch it that's your problem.

If they don't build it on their main show when it comes to one of,  if not the biggest star they have in their company, why would I even bother.
