I think the bigger point is that if he goes far as Ricky Starks, WWE can't prevent him from using that name if he goes elsewhere. The name has been trademarked though. By Ricky Starks. Quote

As far as your first point goes, I don’t think they care about that anymore - just ask Penta, Jacob Fatu, Jordynne Grace, Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, Tama Tonga, Shaun Spears or Ethan Page. There is definitely a reason behind the decision, but it’s probably a banal and slightly silly one; like not wanting to have ‘Stark’ and ‘Starks’ on the same roster, as someone suggested! Fond memories of Lance Cade having to become "Garrison" because they already had Lance Storm on the books. Quote
andrew "the ref" coyne Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 Random thought, and I know this could be a relevant excuse for other former AEW guys, but could it be that they want to minimise people searching "Ricky Starks" and seeing his higher profile matches from AEW? At least if you programme the WWE audience to search "Ricky Saints" they wont be expose to AEW content. Quote
Paid Members air_raid Posted February 19, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 19, 2025 And now fond memories of them having to change the Paige/Charlotte/Becky group to the phenomenally crap "PCB" because fans Googling for the original choice, "Submission Sorority," would find porn. Quote
sivy Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 When it comes to Lexis King they are trying, I mean WWE Elite figure due to come out in the spring. As a character I don't think he's too bad. In ring is his downfall from being a top guy in nxt but If they could find a tag partner for him could do ok. Regarding Ricky Saints as good as he is. In setting up the tag match I kept focusing on Jevon Evans. Quote

Admittedly he's not exactly setting the world on fire but he's been pretty consistently used. Not as consistent as the stupid spray paint fucking beard he has though, why he thinks that looks good is beyond me! Quote

While I wouldn’t completely rule it out, but given that Penta, Ethan Page, Jade Cargill and Shaun Spears kept their names, I’d be surprised if that was the reason. Plus, it would be simple enough to find out about AEW through googling the new name and learning more about who he actually is, if you didn’t already know. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 I've seen on X, That Matt and Jeff are now losers because they're going to NXT next week, like has anyone forgotten WHY Jeff left WWE in 2021? Or WHY he was demoted in AEW? He IS a loser. And Matt can't work a match to save his life anymore. Hopefully they sign some odd deal so we can get them in 2K25 as DLC. Quote

I don't think they have a blanket position anymore, but they didn't have that when Vince was there, as AJ Styles tells us, but it was clearly a strong preference then and I'm sure it's something they discuss in contract negotiations now. Some of those guys the risk is lower, some the reward of keeping the name is higher, and in Ricky's case there may have been a reason why they chose to do that, maybe it was just part of the usual give and take.
