Honestly, aside from the actual Rock vs Hogan match at WrestleMania, this was by far the best moment of the NWO return in 2002 for me. 

Even the little touch of Rock reluctantly posing for the photo with Hogan and looking at Hogan’s hand on his shoulder with disgust is perfect.

I can’t decide if Nash is trying not to laugh or legitimately seething when Rock does the honking noises. No doubt mega solid hard man Nash would tell the story like he was just seconds away from murdering him.

It's just not good. It's funny. The Rock is great in it and makes everyone laugh. But it's symptomatic of the reason they needed to call them in the first place. Three goofs put in their place by The Rock. Just like the previous goofs who invaded. Just like the bald goof who'd wear Goldust's wig. Just like that facepainted goof who'd lose at WrestleMania a million years later.

Completely wrong emphasis on the heel faction at the expense of the real stars. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna cry for the nWo chumps but there's a reason business went down and down and down.

You’re right, and I almost certainly felt the same way at the time. But looking back at it now, knowing it was going nowhere anyway, I love the whole segment. Partly because of how funny Rock is, partly because it felt like a little bit of justice seeing those three on the receiving end for a change. And really, me saying it’s the best bit of NWO 2002, it’s not like it had much competition. That run (more like a hobble) was horrible.

I get the frustration. They’d already royally fucked the Invasion by this point. But while they didn’t know it for sure at the time and I don’t exactly think they brought those guys in with the best of intentions, it was doomed anyway. They were never gonna be able to keep Hogan heel at that point, Nash was falling apart at the seams and Hall had his own issues (which WWF certainly didn’t help by booking an angle where they poured beer all over him). Even if they booked them all perfectly coming in, Hogan was going babyface whatever they did and Nash’s shit was gonna tear off the bone anyway.

I can’t disagree with any of what you said. They made a right shambles of it. But, in the end, sod it. I loved seeing their faces as they stood there with Rock taking the piss out of them.

Mostly from Sky or DSF so there's a LOT of 1993 WWF TV and Worldwide, but also plenty of random stuff like Eurosport French wrestling, some Japanese stuff that's wound up in black and white through shitty conversions, and even some commercial home videos like Wrestling Massacres (Abdullah blading in a Canadian territory), IWCCW (some 1990s Mondo Kleen matches, some of the old Kit Parker 80s collection) and the UWF Herb Abrams compilations.

Great find, used to love Saturdays, AAA on Channel 33 then RTL2 and DSF for WWf/WCW with english commentary dubbed over. then of course the soft core on RTL at night

 

just started watching, hope there is some of the stuff that used to be on Screen sport (WCCW was on there) and early Eurosport with Humperdink and DDP on commentary

Love those. Some of my favourite tapes I ever got off ebay were some from a Norweigan or Swedish fella which were just a load of 1993 WWF TV they'd taped. Not even full shows, just bits and pieces from the weekend shows. Hours and hours of matches, skits and promos, all vaguely from the same time period, in that glorious (not for Vince's bank account) first half of 1993.

The channel is a great find. We live in a golden age of footage where on YouTube or Google drives I have access to more classic wrestling that I will ever be able to watch in my lifetime and can basically find anything I want to watch with a quick search but nothing will capture that feeling of discovery like we had back then, finding out about this much larger universe of wrestling beyond WWF and WCW through magazines or the unmatched joy of finding something on tv and your mind being blown because it’s different wrestling.

Is there a thread here detailing all the different wrestling available on tv or commercial tapes in the UK in the 80s and 90s? Eg there were very obscure Florida and Georgia promotions shown here on different ITV and later cable channels like Lifestyle that were barely known in the US yet somehow made it over here.

Yeah I distinctly remember being very ill as a kid at like 3am and catching some of that Florida stuff. There was a thread or three about wrestling shown here in the UK, including all that stuff but mostly early 90's WCW. The one below is now closed but goes into it.
