deathrey Posted Tuesday at 04:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:51 PM As this is now the Westlife FF, I recently saw on the news that one of the members of Westlife had some botched gastric band surgery and had to have his whole stomach removed. I had no idea a human could live without a stomach Quote

I had no idea a human could live without a stomach I had to search this and learnt that as the small intestine grabs all the nutrients you can essentially live on tiny well chewed up bits of food. Doesn't sound very fun to put it lightly. I could see it being a small plot point in a Black Mirror where because of all the weight loss drugs humans no longer have stomachs. Quote

Yeah I searched it too, fascinating stuff. You can't eat and drink at the same time because your small intestine can't handle it. You have to chew your food thoroughly because there are no stomach acids to break it down and you can only have small snack like meals Quote
Paid Members air_raid Posted 12 hours ago Paid Members Posted 12 hours ago Spotted on a doc : English web journo mentioning “Gen Zee” as opposed to “Gen Zed.” Quote
davertfnewman Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I had to spell the word 'zeitgeist' for a kid at work and they also asked if it started with a 'zee', which I was quick to correct too. Quote

Literally everyone uses '"Gen Zee". I would think someone was mental if I heard them use "Gen Zed" in normal conversation, unless they were trying (and failing) to be funny. Quote

It’s definitely the way I’ve been saying it too! Our current minor annoyance: the toilet’s broken. We only have the one. When the bathroom was last done they tiled it all in so you can’t get to the pipes and cistern without smashing up the tiles. This means we have to get someone in to fix it and nobody can come for at least another week. I’ve been off work (a useful place to shit) and have had to resort to using a Starbucks down the road that doesn’t have codes on its toilet doors. Quote

You wouldn't say "Oh I love Hard Knock Life by Jay Zed" would you? Quote

To your “literally everyone” observation, I’ve never heard it used by anyone English before but full disclosure, it’s possible I’ve not been in many conversations where the label for that demographic has been used. Fair to say had I heard a “zee” used by Brits, I’d have been here before, already complaining about it. I take mild offence to the idea this was anything but a genuine grumble, especially how infrequently I take the time to post almost anything these days. This is (sometimes) a safe space to pop in with a petty whine and see if it resonates, so that’s what I did. I’m in my 40s, I couldn’t give a flying fuck about being “performative” anything. Especially not here in Off Topic when slowly but gradually over the years it’s felt like posting anything close to an opinion about almost anything is a pitfall waiting for someone or another lurking round the corner to meerkat up and tell me my feelings or opinions are invalid. 3 minutes ago, SuperBacon said: You wouldn't say "Oh I love Hard Knock Life by Jay Zed" would you? Right on cue… No, I wouldn’t. Because that’s a name, stage name or otherwise. He says how it’s pronounced so I wouldn’t contradict him any more than I’d tell Niamh or Siobhan they’re saying it wrong. Shared common language is a hill I can die on. Yanks are wrong when they say “twot” when they’re trying to say twat, it’s zed if you’re not a colonist. But you know, whatever. I’ll stick to wrestling, it’s been a long time coming. ENDUT, HOCH HECH. Quote

Genuinely, are you ok? That's sad if you feel like that. I don't think much is to be taken seriously on here. If it annoys you, that's all that matters. 20 minutes ago, air_raid said: No, I wouldn’t. It's definitely a stage name mate I don't see an issue with saying zee as it's predominantly the most used variation and that kind of term comes from over there, but then as I get older I don't care as much. A new girl at work says 'pacifically' and even that doesn't bother me anymore...much. Each to their own. Quote
