If you can get an online squad together it's really fun, even when half the game is pulling noobs out of the swamp they somehow tipped over into.

I've been playing it on my Switch today. Definitely a trickier prospect as there are no analogue triggers so you're automatically going full beans on the throttle every time. 

@Merzbowif you're on XBox or it has cross platform I'll happily hop on sometime for a game.

Sadly the only crossplay is Steam and Epic, I've got it on the latter.

That's a shame. I don't even think my laptop could run it, but I bet it'd be a great for using with my wheel and pedals. Maybe I'll check the specs and see.

Apologies if this is the wrong thread but could anyone give advice on Xbox one S?

I know it's ancient but I just want a console for playing very casually (the odd game of FC/NHL/Forza Horizon) and it appears from what I've read that it's a reasonably decent budget 4k player, is there something massive I've missed out on before I go and give CEX 100 quid for one?

Again, not fussed at all about playing newish games, the only game I have for it is Alex Kidd in Miracle World from my old Xbox one

It's a solid media player for the price and Apps like Netflix and YouTube are still kept up to date. It's showing it's age now in how quick it is loading things up, but sounds fine for what you want. They still make EA sports games for it but I'm not sure for how much longer, Forza Horizon 4 was the last one available for it.

It will play most original Xbox and 360 games too. You would need to check if they are backwards compatible online first though.

I've got one and it does what I need it to. I've picked up an external Hard drive and stuck loads of XBox One/360/original XBox stuff on there. I've got Train Sim World on my internal hard drive and not much else, but that's because of how much space all the TSW DLC takes up. It's not going to run everything in super high performance ultra 4k 5million frames per second, but it'll play whatever is out on XBox at the moment. Prices are probably about to rise as well, so I'd pick one up now while they're still reasonably priced.

Pretty sure he is talking Xbox One S, not the Series S.

Depending on how much gaming you'd do, it might be worth going for an Xbox One X if its not too much more - more powerful and you'd get the 4k gaming for stuff like Forza as well as on top of 4k media playback the One S has.

I still have the Xbox One S as my only console. I bought it back in 2017! It still does a good job for what I need, it doesn't play the latest AAA games released for Series X (or whatever it's called), but I'm rarely interested in those. If you understand what it can and can't do, I'd say it's a decent console if you can get one for £100.

You can get a One S for closer to £50 these days, CEX is a bit over priced for them. Check a Cash Generator or somewhere, plus the games are dirt cheap too.

I've actually gone back to the 360 recently, it's now easy to hack so no need for discs again and it now plays many original Xbox games that were never made backwards compatible.

So having binned Crash Bandicoot for being ridiculous with its difficulty, I just got 100% on Crash Bandicoot 2. A far better game - that's not to say a couple of the levels aren't fucking infuriating and the location of the portals stupidly obscure but I enjoyed it a lot.

Just started on the third one and not enjoying it as much. Too much variety between the levels right from the outset but also not as difficult. So far. It's alright so I'll keep going with it.

Quake, a game from 1996 just got a brand new official campaign for it's 30th birthday.

I wish we got a new single player game but I'm more than happy with this, it's by MachineGames who just seem to get what makes both Quake 1 and 2 so good while adding their own flavour. The maps are bloody huge and complex while still feeling like they're right out of the mid 90's.

Oh it's totally free if you own the original, too.

I got a very reasonably priced Mario Kart wheel on eBay that also works with my Laptop, so tonight I set it up while I'm dogsitting for Vicky and played something called Copa Petrobras de Marcas on Steam. It's from the people that do the Automobilista games, and it based around Brazilian stock car racing. It's from 2017, so will probably run on a calculator nowadays and is completely free. Setup still needs a bit of work though.
