Paid Members RedTwoster Posted August 16 Paid Members Posted August 16 Marvel’s Tokon. A fun and surprisingly complex fighter, even if the character roster feels like it’s missing some key names - presumably for DLC reasons. The X-Men team has Magik(?) and Danger on it, for example - with Cyclops and Jean Grey among the first DLC characters. The plot is daft and campy, but if you like fighting games (and I do) you’ll love the gameplay and the challenge it poses. It does, however, contain one of the most irritating voice acting performances ever with whoever is playing Deadpool. I don’t like the Deadpool character at his best, and this is the complete opposite to that. I had to skip all of the cut scenes featuring Team Deadpool as he grated on me that much. Even during the fights he’s constantly making bad quips, I fucking hate him. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 16 Paid Members Posted August 16 The Cyclops variant is the Phoenix as well, so there's speculation that the first season of DLC is relating to the AvsX Phoenix Five, with Magik receiving an alternate costume. I wonder whether some of the omissions are also because they can't figure out how to get them to work in the style of the game. Nolan North is Deadpool. I know he played him in the Deadpool game, and I'm pretty sure he played him in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Presumably Steve Blum is playing Wolverine because actual voice of Wolverine Cal Dodd is busy voicing him in the cartoon. Quote

Nolan North is generally brilliant, and ultimately he’s just delivering the lines he’s been served - it’s just that those lines are all awful. 7 minutes ago, Jazzy G said: I wonder whether some of the omissions are also because they can't figure out how to get them to work in the style of the game. I’m not so sure - Cyclops is easy enough, someone like Dr Strange is essentially just Magik…a lot of the Marvel vs Capcom mainstays have been ignored. It’s not a huge complaint as I really like the game, but I reckon they’ve held back a bit just to make the DLC more enticing. Quote
Paid Members JLM Posted August 16 Paid Members Posted August 16 I really like that they’ve gone for a few left field choices at launch. Also great that Blade is in there as she should really have been in a tag fighter already. I don’t mind Deadpool and I love that he has tonnes and tonnes of references to other fighting games crammed into his kit. They’ve really gone above and beyond with it, like I’ve seen multiple “did you spot them all?” clips that haven’t managed to fit them all in. His raging demon in particular is a masterpiece. I’ve only spent about 5 hours in training mode so far and it’s a very fun game to lab as tag fighters generally are. It’s a more restrictive combo system than UMVC3 but there is still incredible scope for creativity. Thankful that the patch has sorted out most of the issues the PC version had at launch, it was completely unplayable at first which is unforgivable when a lot of the same problems were evident in the beta. Haven’t had any issues since patching it though. The first major tournament is happening for it at CEO this weekend so I will be trawling through that during the week to see what I can steal. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted August 16 Paid Members Posted August 16 I'm not big on superhero stuff in general but I did play pretty much a solid year of Marvel Snap a couple of years ago. It's actually shocking when you see how many interesting and unique characters they have in their catalogue that they've stuck to the same old stuff like Cyclops, Deadpool and Avengers. Quote

I don’t mind that so much, it’s more that they’re holding back some of the more popular characters for DLC purposes - with the year one season pass costing around £30, but only containing 4 characters. It’s not exactly unusual these days, but given that the base game only contains 20 characters split into teams of four - meaning there are only 5 potential routes when it comes to single player - it feels a bit minimal. I still think it’s a very good game, I’m just not keen on the idea of things being purposely held back in order to sell DLC; particularly when the DLC is this expensive. Quote
Merzbow Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Some genius has finally managed to make an emulator that plays the first three Ridge Racer arcade games perfectly, works on PC, 360 and Xbox One (I think it needs dev mode tho). It's great with a controller but I think I need to get a cheap wheel and pedals now... Still the greatest arcade racer of all time, simple yet perfect drift mechanics and I'd argue these have the best soundtracks of the series, pure hardcore and gabber over the later smooth electronica. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 17 Paid Members Posted August 17 (edited) @Scratch PXN 900 wheel is purchased. I don't think there's room for a proper rig in my flat, so am now looking at getting a little c-shaped table to attach the wheel to, and then pop the pedals on the floor. I know it's going to be proper scruffy, but I'm on a budget, and don't think I've got anything on my XBox that still has any kind of realistic online presence unless people are still hammering the original Assetto Corsa on there. I'll see what it looks like when it arrives. Meanwhile I've just been playing through the career and rivals stuff on Forza Motorsport 7. Stuck all the races to extra long and the gears to manual, but I'm bloody terrible with the other assists off right now, mind you I should probably try turning them off with something a little less powerful than what I was using at the time. Had a great time thrashing a 1950s Alfa Romeo F1 car around the Nurburgring for 10 laps, but need to get out of the habit of constantly trying to push for a better lap time as opposed to just being consistently neat around the track. I have been having good practice looking for passing opportunities and following safely behind the AI drivers, especially when it's all chaos on the first corner and I end up shunted to the back of the pack. I'll probably pick some less powerful cars, turn the assists off and then crack around a circuit I'm more familiar with, like Le Mans to get my eye in then build up from there. Oh, I've also been back playing Brotato. It's still a lot of fun if you're into the roguelite type thing. There's an update coming soon with dinosaurs. And Train Sim World 6. Dovetail have a direct on their YouTube channel the 25th of this month where it's expected they're announcing TSW7. People are in uproar because it's the tenth anniversary of Train Sim World soon, and there are still bugs and glitches from the original that haven't been addressed. If anybody picked up Wonders of Sodor there's apparently a DLC announcement for that as well. Edited August 17 by Jazzy G Quote
Paid Members Scratch Posted August 17 Paid Members Posted August 17 (edited) Love that Jazzy, and it doesn’t matter what you’ve got, how much is cost or where you put it - if it’s fun, it’s fun. I can’t speak for Xbox but my neighbour is a retired racing driver and wanted to get a rig. As he’s really not tech savvy, he went for a PS5 rather than a PC and plays nothing but Asseto Corsa and races online all the time, so worth a look for sure. I would just urge you to not get too disheartened when you play online against people who aren’t really there to race. It’s a cheap game with no punishments for bad behaviour, so you’re going to get that over something like iRacing that’s subscription-based and built around a safety rating. But you’re going to have a blast with your new wheel, I’ve no doubt. Report back and let us know how you get on. Edited August 17 by Scratch Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted August 17 Paid Members Posted August 17 I am interested to see what it's like when Le Mans Ultimate arrives on XBox later in the year. I'll definitely keep you updated on how I do when I get everything set up. Quote
Paid Members Scratch Posted August 17 Paid Members Posted August 17 (edited) Here’s a race I did earlier in the year, I uploaded my own replay to YouTube. I completely pissed up qualifying so started at the back of the grid, but saw it as an opportunity to see how far up the field I could get. Probably one of the best races I’ve ever had, ruined by pushing just a little bit too much on the final few laps after I’d made it up to third. But as I said earlier - if it’s fun, it’s fun. Paid Members BigJag Posted August 18 Paid Members Posted August 18 That's quite impressive. Your level of control coming out of the corners is key. I'd be at all sorts of angles if I'd been driving. How much computing power are you using for your setup? I've been seeing some stuff about the recent Ridge Racer arcade ports. I'd really like to get them up and running at home. Could a semi-powerful laptop handle the Ridge Racer ports? The laptop os around 7 years old. Retro Computer Club in Leicester use an old laptop to run their MAME setup. Quote

Paid Members BigJag Posted August 18 Paid Members Posted August 18 Cheers for that link it will definitely be useful. Quote
Merzbow Posted August 18 Posted August 18 It'll work on any remotely modern PC, it doesn't need a beast if it also runs on an Xbox 360. Quote
