I know he was a multiple weight world champ but he would have been a legend in a different era. He peaked when the Fab 4 were making bank fighting each other and he was an almighty risk. So instead he crushed Don Curry then came over here and beat Herol Graham and Michael Watson.

The guy had it all and was a joy to watch. RIP.

Big couple of days for boxing retirements. Kosei Tanaka who became a 4 weight world champion has retired at 29 because his eyes are fucked. That was yesterday. Today Vasyl Lomachenko has retired. Nothing that hasn't already been said about Loma. An absolute genius and a joy to watch.

I'm presuming it is a response to that Times Square card. It was absolutely awful and If you want in on this Saudi sports washing bullshit you at least have to be somewhat entertaining.

I'm fascinated how a prime Floyd Mayweather Jnr would have dealt with this Saudi money era.

You make a very good point and it would be interesting to know what people think was  Floyd Mayweather Jnr  "Prime" part of his career, whether we go to the first version of "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jnr or the later part of his career when he turned into "Money" Floyd Mayweather Jnr .

I need to have a think about it myself.

Two very different versions, but both could equally be argued as primes. Given Turki's recent tweet though I'd say Pretty Boy would have been better suited.

It's broadly irrelevant though, as the point of elite sport is it takes many forms. If it's arbitrarily gerrymandered to make it 'entertaining' it'll all look the same and you never really get an accurate take on who is the best as you never get to see people experiment with skillsets or trying new, supposedly 'conservative' things.  Conversely, you never get the thrill of seeing more adventurous athletes/teams eventually breaking down the brick wall.

You just end up watching people trying broadly the same thing as the quality of sport degrades.

Part of the Mayweather appeal was 'could this be the night he gets flattened'.

Usyk and Alex Krassyuk have parted ways. Little bit of a concern, especially the timing of it with the Dubois rematch right around the corner.

I wouldn’t have thought so but fuck knows? Seems out of the blue and I can’t see why they’d choose now to publicly announce their split with the Dubois fight so close. Just feels weird. Usyk’s probably only got a couple of fights left at best, this could even be his last, so it’s seems a bit odd that they’re not just seeing his career out together. Something’s gone wonky and, while I wouldn’t usually think it’s a money thing with Usyk, it usually does boil down to that with stories like this.
