@RedTwosterThe “Big Ol’ San Antonio Women” insult is a long standing Charles Barkley bit off Inside NBA which is why it got a decent pop. Without context it sounds lazy but it’s been going on for years and years.

I forgot to say during my Dynamite post, but I absolutely hate Halloween theming, even light Halloween theming as we saw here. But given how overboard WWE has gone with these things historically, light theming was a step in the right direction as far as my tastes are concerned.

The show as a whole was fine, if uninspiring. Dragunov is a fantastic wrestler, and I like their presentation of him. It makes him stand out, he feels more like a fighter than a ‘WWE Superstar’ and I like that. The match with Frazier was very good, but the result was never in doubt. I thought they were heading for a triple threat, and I kind of wish they’d done that to shake up the Open Challenge format and show just how much of a badass Dragunov is.

Tiffany Stratton continues to be horrendous on the mic, and comes across very heelish. The fact Jade was cheered while she was booed speaks volumes. Jade can absolutely work as a top heel, but against Stratton, she’s only ever going to come across as the more likeable party.

‘Who attacked Jacob Fatu?’ - I’ll spoil it for you now, it’s Sami Zayn. They’re not turning Cody, and it’s almost certainly not a current heel wrestler, wheel out Solo, McIntyre or someone like that and it’s underwhelming. Damien Priest is possible but unlikely, and as soon as he’s ruled out, who’s left? The roster is so thin, it pretty much has to be Sami. A heel Zayn vs Cody still seems like one of the better options at their disposal as far as title matches go, so I hope I’m right here and they don’t pull in a Raw wrestler as the attacker, or Brock Lesnar.

Solo Sikoa has improved on the mic significantly, but calling Chris Sabin ‘Harry Potter’ was one of the strangest insults a heel has delivered. What’s the implication there? He doesn’t look like him or wear glasses so that doesn’t work. He’s not English so it doesn’t work on that level. It feels like (and probably was) a line someone wrote simply so Sabin could deliver his following-up retort. Bizarre stuff.

Seems more likely to me that the attacker will be revealed as Randy Orton. They still haven’t done the feud with him and Cody so that feels a likely next step.

Given that he’s out injured and there’s no timeline in mind for his return, I don’t think it’ll be him. There’s also not really any reason for him to have done it in the first place, whereas Zayn can be pissed off at him getting an opportunity for a title matches over him, or something like that.

I really enjoyed the Open Challenge. It's always a good chance to showcase talent and the champ isn't at a position where he looks too weak having competitive matches with people.

Glad someone else was confused about the Harry Potter thing. I honestly thought I'd missed something.

I doubt it. Babyface Sami Zayn feels absolutely nailed on to win the Royal Rumble in Saudi. He’s the perfect candidate in every way. Long overdue after creating the entire boom off his own back, will get a huge reaction, and more importantly they can point at what a nice thing they’ve done to distract from, well, *broadly gestures at everything else*.

Boring, uninspiring episode of Smackers. For all the chat of them shaking things up creatively it took them no time at all to return to their usual, predictable patterns.

It’s what struck me the most in the main event angle. If you truly want to shake things up and prove those reports of big creative changes wasn’t just Heyman feeding Meltzer any old shite, then put the belt on Drew tonight. With Drew standing tall at the end of this show it feels less likely than ever, but imagine the shock if Drew smashed Cody up and walked out as Champion? It’d fucking rule! A big, exciting, dramatic change. Something Triple H seems allergic to unless January rolls around and The Rock pours a bottle of piss on his long-term Wrestlemania plans.

Put the Smackdown belt on Drew. Put the Raw belt on Punk. Let both guys carry the show with new, fresh directions. Never mention Seth Rollins again.

Quick bonus thoughts.

Extra funny to still be calling Cody the Undisputed WWE Champion after he just lost a Champion vs. Champion at Crown Jewel. Undisputed!

Nothing sums up Jade Cargill’s career more than that opening segment. Always one step forward, two steps back. Turned heel. Looked like a superstar. Immediately stumbled over her words and mispronounced, “Tiffy Time,” as, “Taffy Time.” Aura instantly diminished. Back to square one.

US Open Challenge was great. Draganov’s brilliant. He’s going to end up killing himself or his opponent, but still. Fun whilst it lasts.

Trust this company to not really know how to tell a nice, normal, wholesome story about friendship. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte’s storyline now becoming, “it’s good to have friends because then you can both cheat together to win!”

Rey Fenix being fed to Longa Tonga next week. Poor bastard. Maybe start posting memes and videos of you breaking back into prison?

I don’t even care if Solo himself knew what he meant calling Sabin, “Harry Potter.” Solo still remains the funniest man in the company. Remember when the Machine Guns were funny? Feels like a different dimension to these losers that now stink up Smackdown. Pair of Harry Potters.

That might happen, but he can go into that as a babyface and turn before Wrestlemania. I think they’ll have Punk win that Rumble, anyway. Zayn is in a weird situation in that a lot of fans seem to dislike him for no real reason. He could do with the heel turn - and honestly, it would probably lift him to a new level given how light the Smackdown roster is on top heels. He’s also acting very shifty around people like Cody, and I can’t imagine that’s anything other than by design. We’ll see, though!

Bliss and Flair is a horrible pairing. Trying far too hard to be "funny" with Charlotte nudging Bliss etc. Horrible stuff all around.

Sami pleading with Aldis to be out there in the MFT match was ridiculous. Just go out there you loser.

Cody/Drew is up there with the worst title feud of all time. Drew is probably candidate for the biggest loser in WWE history after Kane etc.

Dragunov is good though I'll give them that.

Jade Cargill turns heel, yet is overwhelmingly cheered. There’s more than a hint of Becky Lynch’s heel turn that led to ‘The Man’ about this. How could you boo Jade, really, she’s an utter badass and is effortlessly cool. Even though she’s not the best ring worker, the prospect of her wrestling Charlotte is pretty interesting.

Some real Deja vu with the Black/Rhodes match and confrontation, although Black seemed like a much greater asset when he first joined AEW than he does now. And that’s not on AEW or WWE, he’s simply not as good as he appeared to be.

Continuing the Cody/Drew feud is as uninteresting as continuing Hangman Page/Samoa Joe. And it shouldn’t be really as Drew can be very compelling. So can Samoa Joe, to be fair - but both feuds feel very tepid. It’s a shame Drew didn’t join AEW when his contract was up, he could have benefitted from the fresh environment, and AEW would have benefitted from having him. WWE don’t seem willing to push him any higher than where he’s currently at.

Dragunov is great, but I’m not really sure what they’re going for with him and Ciampa. He’s running an open challenge but won’t just wrestle him? I guess he’s trying to wind him up, but I’ve no idea why he’d bother.

The Jade Cargill thing feels like they’re taking the longest route ever to how she always should have been booked, which is as the female Goldberg.

It’s yet further evidence that all the negatives of WWE in 2025 can be attributed to Triple H being a massive fucking mark for himself, learning nothing from the huge misfires in his career. We’re over twenty years removed from when Goldberg first came into WWE and everyone completely shat the bed by forcing him to work twenty minute snoozefests with Hunter. It was beyond their comprehension that some people might get over doing squashes and wild sprints. Everyone had to work the same boring, plodding, shit style. Even when they figured it out with Goldberg during his second run, it clearly never clicked in Hunter’s head. He’s still insistent that everyone has to work the exact same way. His way is the best and only way. Their entire Developmental System is flawed because of it.

It’s also quite funny that they claimed they had to re-teach Jade how to work when she moved over from AEW, and yet it’s only now, when she’s wrestling more like she did in AEW, that it’s finally starting to work. It’s enough to make you wonder if Bryan Danielson does know a thing or two about this pro-wrestling lark.

Watch. Jade will go on a heel run, where she has much shorter, action-packed matches, selling loads less and doing zero springboards, and the fans themselves will force them to turn her. They’ll accidentally finally get her over as a babyface. And then they’ll tell us on Unreal that they’re geniuses who knew what they were doing from the start.

I am a genius! I do deserve the fruit baskets! 2003 was a great year for WWE, actually! It’s Scott Steiner and Goldberg who were rubbish!

So you're saying... it's only smoke and mirrors?

Sorry.

But also not sorry.

On the subject of smoke and mirrors, you’ve got to be gutted for Karrion Kross. Still sitting by the phone, waiting for Hunter to call back, only for Aleister and Zelina to completely rip off the spooky couple gimmick and entrance. I read on Teletext that Aleister does a great impression of Jesse Ventura, too.

Game over, man. Game over.
