Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Colleague's daughter brought me in a packet of sugar free, vegan Gummy Bears. There as you'd expect.
Merzbow
Aren't most gummy sweets accidentally vegan these days? I'm seeing less and less with any kind of animal based geletin in them.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Almost all Haribo sweets use pork gelatin, or beef gelatin if they're being all Halal about it.
Merzbow
True, it's more the store brand sweets. M&S cola bottles are the shit and definitely have none, a margin of the price of their vegan branded sweets too.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Oh really? Gonna have to get on that - I'm not a fan of most of their veggie-branded sweets (Veggie Percys are balls), and I miss fizzy cola bottles even more than I miss a Scotch Egg. Keith Houchen
Morrisons do vegan jelly fruits, one fiddy for a takeaway carton size and they are lovely!

If you're vegetarian rather than vegan, have you tried the meatless scotch-eggs in Holland and Barrett? I really like them. Â
Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Asda in their small packet sweets have lots of veggie ones, including cola bottles and rainbow belts. Have a V in the bottom left side of the packet and 5 bags for ÂŁ1.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 We don't have an Asda I'll have to check Holland & Barrett, not seen them there before. I tried the Quorn "savoury eggs", but found them far too dry. The Coach & Horses in Soho used to do an amazing veggie scotch egg, before they went full vegan. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Local bakers used to do a cheese egg (cheese replacing the horse meat) that was divine. Can still get them in one place in Beverley but they're ÂŁ2.50 each! Used to be 55p in the bakers. No wonder they went bust. I made my own earlier this year and they didn't come out bad. Were a tiny bit floury but they were a fuckload cheaper than ÂŁ2.50 so swings and roundabouts.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Cheese is off the menu for me now, sadly, otherwise that sounds great. Where in Beverley does one? Saying that, I don't think in my entire life have I ever bought anything from a bakery in Beverley other than cheese straws, a cheese and onion pasty, and the odd mis-shapen gingerbread man. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted September 26, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted September 26, 2018 Place called Vanessa's in the Saturday market. It's a great deli but priced for the Tory Pensioner brigade.
UK Kat Von D
Temple of Seitan lived up to the hype. Missed registration for my booth at the London Tattoo Convention so I could have this. Had to get up at 8am today to make sure I didn’t lose my booth. Worth it though
