Paid Members Carbomb Posted May 4 Paid Members Share Posted May 4 As mentioned in the Banging Sunsets thread, just got back from Rhodes, and got to try several Greek beers at various restaurants: Alpha draught is very nice - they also do one with sea salt, which doesn't actually taste salty, but it does taste a little like if they used San Pellegrino water in making it. Mythos is probably the main brand of beer in Greece - decent lager, nice cold. Washed down those keftedakia nicely. Mamos was good, slightly maltier, but again, like most lagers, best served cold in a frosted glass. This one's call Fix. Very malty, I found, which I quite like. Never got to try Fix Dark, so hopefully will try when I go again. Zythos - very clean, crisp flavour, and very refreshing. Overall, despite not being a lager fan, I enjoyed these. To be fair, these are probably the most suitable beers for the kind of weather they get.

Just Some Guy
I know they got mentioned earlier in the thread and that some of you have enjoyed their beers, so it is sad to hear that Top Rope Brewing have closed.

I'm not shocked, though it is sad to see. They moved away from retail beer sales and into more trade stuff recently, which made me think this might be coming. Definitely a shame, Papa Mango was one of my favourites. Seemed like a good bunch of lads running it too.

That's a shame but not surprising sadly, the bubble on small brewers burst post COVID with changing tastes in the market and costs ripping into margins and quiet a few have called it a day. Paid Members Tommy! Posted May 24 Paid Members Share Posted May 24 Double post, sorry lads. Anyone tried "fresh ale" yet, the keg beer through a cask line?

Camra have a big campaign against it but TBH it it gets unused pumps serving something I'm ok with it. https://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2023/05/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-fresh-ale-category/

Reading the descriptions, I'm really keen to try some now.
Just Some Guy
The issue is that pub goers who are not aware of what "fresh ale" are getting conned into buying a product other than they expect. It's a wet dream for the international brewing conglomerates.

If they just added something to the pump clip I'd be happy as a camera nerd, and as I say if it gets better beer in some pubs because they don't have to worry about it going off so quick it's win win (assuming it doesn't taste shite, obvs) Edited May 24 by Tommy! Just Some Guy
I'm struggling to come up with a comparative situation I guess it's like that time we were all buying beef lasagne only to find out it was 50% horse. There's no justification for selling anything other than real ale through a traditional beer engine. Edited May 24 by Just Some Guy I really should think things through.
