Paid Members Thunderplex Posted November 10, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 10, 2013 There are few films that are worth the extra expense of IMAX 3D, but Gravity is one of them. Saw it last night and the vastness of space and the effect of the whole thing is definitely enhanced by the bigger screen and the extra dimension. Bloody good film, too. If you're going to see it, you may as well go all the way and get the full experience Edit: but it depends on how much you want to see it, really... It is quite a bit of money...  Saw the 3D advert before Thor 2 last week. Made me feel queasy as hell. Not felt like that with a film for a long, long time, to the point that I am worried about seeing it at the cinema. People have said it is the film 3D was made for, and just from the trailer, I think they may be right.
Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted November 10, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Did you know that the Pet Shop Boys made a film in 1988? Neither did I. It was called "It Couldn't Happen Here" and was really very dull. It was just a collection of strange sketches starring Joss Acklund, Barbara Windsor and fecking Gareth Hunt. Very odd. You'd have more fun just sticking one of their CDs on. Â ADDED: Film is probably more famous for predicting the King's Cross Underground fire. A bit from the film was deleted where a bunch of people were running out of the Underground station on fire about a week before the actual fire. How odd. King Pitcos
The World's End. Not as bad as I'd been led to expect. Some very sharp dialogue (and some not so), decent acting (Pegg's best ever, I reckon), and an underperforming story. Very poor ending. SteelEdge
Paranormal Activity 4 Â I really enjoyed the first 3 films and I have them on DVD, however this was just a big fat sack of meh. Brought nothing new to the P.A table and the scares were very samey. 4/
Keith Houchen
A few days off work started with MONEYBALL, Brad Pitt was good, Jonah Hill reminded me of Ceaser from Catholic Boys. Was hoping to see more of the statistical side of things but a solid, if not brilliant film. Â Then I watched DEAD MANS SHOES which I hadn't seen before. Back when Shane Meadows was very good. Gary Stretch was a nice surprise.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted November 12, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 12, 2013 Watched Gravity, last week. It's really a lot to take in with the 3D, but it's unlike anything I've watched. Not sure it will hold up as well without all the 3D wonder, though, as the story and what not aren't really that strong.
Keith Houchen
Watched Thor. As paper thin as a comic book with paint by numbers characters with a few token minorities thrown in. A right comic sans of a film.
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted November 12, 2013 Awards Moderator Share Posted November 12, 2013 I saw Gravity and Thor last weekend and liked them both. I thought similar about Gravity, Colin, really glad I saw it on IMAX in 3D for the experience, but not sure if I'd have enjoyed it as much if I'd been watching on a TV or laptop or something. And I like the Thor films

Paid Members Fatty Facesitter Posted November 13, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 13, 2013 Bifkin, by "fun" do you mean stuff like the Aston Martin Vanish? I love the gadgets throughout the films, but that was little too much and I'm glad they got stripped back a bit thereafter.
Guy Bifkin
No that was shit too, most post Roger Moore Bond is with the odd exception.
GalaxyV.2
I thought Skyfall was them moving into that direction. It was to establish the 'Bond' archetype, get him back in that old sort of groove so they can now move forward with him becoming the Bond we all know. Paid Members Dead Mike Posted November 13, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted November 13, 2013 Ah, nostalgia. The bond films/cartoons/sweets/toys that were about when I was a kid were best. Not the like the rubbish new ones.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 13, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted November 13, 2013 I thought Casino Royale was a great film. But it wasn't a great Bond film. Quantum Of Solace was shite on both fronts. Â Bond isn't Bond any more, he's a Jason Bourne clone. I love the first three Bourne films and I really like Daniel Craig so I'll still get more enjoyment out of this, hopefully, but I'll always prefer James Bond hopping over crocodiles and being racially insensitive. Ant
I have watched the Alan Partridge boxset over the last week or so. Outstanding show that is still winning.
