Guy Bifkin
Bifkin, would she not appreciate the genteel surroundings of an Angus Steak House then? Â I suppose it depends just how concerned she is about helping crime gangs dispose of their bodies. Â Have you ever seen anyone eating in one? Me neither. Definitely a money laundering front for an organised crime syndicate. Â Thanks for the suggestions chaps, I
rockbus
For Chinese I recommend a place called Noodle Noodle on Buckingham Palace Road. Certainly not somewhere you'd go for a romantic meal as it looks a little grotty but the food is outstanding and you can have a 3 course set menu with drinks for under 30 quid for two. I lived around Crystal Palace for 2 years and there's a great Thai place called Tamnag and a curry place called Yak and Yeti there which are both incredible if you're ever in that neck of the woods. NEWM
Threads like this make me a bit jealous of not living in London. Not because I'm a massive foodie as such, but the seemingly unending list of ace places all within reasonable access via the Tube, that probably aren't even that hard to stumble across. My brother's lived in London for over fifteen years now, and I'm constantly impressed with his vast knowledge of places off the top of his head because London's just so full of them. Â Though I know they definitely exist somewhere, I don't know where they are in Sunderland or Newcastle anymore because I'm out so much less from when I was a bit younger, and we'd go out to eat and drink loads more. I miss not having that mental rolodex to flick through because good places either stop being good or scare people off because they're slightly different to the norm. The latter especially in Sunderland.

Keith Houchen
Mrs Houchen is going to London for a conference in April, so I'm going to tag along. I shall be fucking around during the days and will try a couple of the recommendations in the evenings.
Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted February 15, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 15, 2013 Splashed out & took my chick to Gordon Ramsay's Maze Grill last night, the steak she had was the best steak I've ever tasted and the sides & starters were lovely (the sundae not so much). It was really fun & it felt special but I did have the feeling that I couldn't really handle the 200+ quid bill right now in the back of my mind. Â What did you end up doing bifkin? Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted February 15, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 15, 2013 Bodeans in Poland Street, London. I've never felt so masculine in all my days, than I did eating in that place and putting away a platter that feeds three. Good times.

I've only tried it myself recently but it seems to have done a pretty decent trade based on word of mouth for a good few years. It's in a shit area and looks like a greasy spoon cafe from the outside, but the food is tremendous.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted February 15, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 15, 2013 We couldn't go out last night with working late so we're doing the Valentines thing tomorrow night instead. Â Anyone here from the Midlands been to the Aalto restaurant in Birmingham? Any good? We don't eat out often but we're going there tomorrow. It looks nice. Â Was going to try Marco Pierre White's steak place but it was full.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted February 15, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted February 15, 2013 Seems that, in addition to specialised, small menu places, there's a bit of a trend in quality US diner-style food right now. Spuntino's in Rupert St, Mr. Buckley's in Hackney and Joe Allen's in Covent Garden are all very popular. Pricey, though.
