King Pitcos Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 One thing i did take massive enjoyment from it though, was throughout the first 45 minutes of the film being bugged by who Captain Hadley was and where i'd seen that face and heard that voice before. Insisting to the missus we'd seen him in something, the stubborn cow was having none of it. When it finally dropped that he was Kelvin Joe Inman, Desmonds Hatch brother from Lost, i completely lost my shit. I love that guy. What a voice. I almost wish he narrated it, as much as i love Freeman. Would have made it a bit of a different film, mind. And he was the Kurgan in the rightful number one, Highlander.
cobra_gordo Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I do think Shawshank is a bit over rated when it comes to these sort of lists. It's a good film don't get me wrong but I don't think it's that good. Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot for #1.

Loki Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 And also in the fabulous Starship Troopers as a badarse gunnery sargeant. Along with Michael Ironside. Verhoeven's casting is sublime. He's unrecognisable as Kurgan though. I didn't put Highlander in my Top 10, but I probably should have done as for many years it was my favourite film, indeed when I was about 17 I could recite the whole film word for word, including accents. The last time I watched it, it looked quite pants though, and you can see why Russell Mulcahy never amounted to much as a director.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 22, 2012 Moderators Posted February 22, 2012 At the start of this thing I was sure Shawshank would make the list, but with some of the curve balls that have come up (especially in the top 20) I had my doubts as the list wore on. Glad to see it here because I love it and voted for it.

Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 22, 2012 Moderators Posted February 22, 2012 Remember that totally awesome Blood Brothers mixtape that I posted up a few pages back? There's a sequel Haven't had a listen as yet but I think it might actually be even better than the first from the looks of the tracklisting.
Paid Members Burchill's Buddy Posted February 22, 2012 Paid Members Posted February 22, 2012 When we got to the top 3 I assumed Fight Club and Shawshank were still coming, and that one of them would top the list.....but I have absolutely no idea what the other one's going to be. A lot of people seem to think Rocky but I definitely think that one would split the votes too much between the original, 3 and 4. I'm hoping for a comedy but like I said before I think comedy is too subjective to get enough people voting for the same one. I think all of my top 5 have appeared now though so I'm pretty happy with that. My predictions for number 1 are either Scarface, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Anchorman or Monty Python's Life of Brian.

One of my favourite films is Friday The 13th Part VIII. Is it any good? Of course not.

Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted February 22, 2012 Awards Moderator Posted February 22, 2012 Glad to see Shawshank placed so highly. Of all the ones in my top ten, this was the one I thought would do best but I didn't think it'd hit this highly when the actionfest top 10 started getting revealed. It's such a wonderful film for so many reasons. I can't for the life of me stump a guess at what'll be number one, as the rest of the films I voted for won't have a cat in hell's chance. Anchorman, for as funny as it may be in parts, best not be number one or this'll be a huge anti-climax.

I would've thought Oldboy. Oldboy's the nerds film of choice and as it hasn't made the list so far I'd be amazed if it didn't turn up anywhere. Unless it is on the list and I've missed it - then oops.
