Minor news items that don't deserve a thread

Disagree, but Shamrock & Bossman were still worse.

Don't see how it can be disagreed to be honest. The presentation and style and even something as basic as the promotion's reach was completely different between the days of Louis Cerdan holding a tag team title and 1997. And still even then there were acts like The Valiants, The Blackjacks, The Samoans and The Moondogs who are more interesting than The Headbangers were.

Woah there. Neither the Beverly Brothers nor Deuce & Domino were tripe. Who were Cade & Armstrong? If you mean Cade & Murdoch, then again you're massively wrong.

Deuce and Domino were poor on the mic, poor in their attempt at vignettes and in-ring were tremendously dull and lacking in charisma. They summed up the tag division of the time, totally bland and incapable of making folk care.

Beverley brothers didn't cut it either. As a 10 year old at the time they didn't have any redeeming qualities.

Beverly Brothers are fun! Probably more fun as the Destruction Crew (Wayne Bloom is a surprisingly good promo) but the Beverly's were a more than serviceable lower mid-card team. And the Shaker Heights Spike is badass.

Beverley Brothers were fucking abysmal. Not technically awful but as boring as is humanly possible. Like watching paint dry with Guy Mowbray commentating on it.

Given that wrestling isn't genuine and isn't judged on artistic merit, being that dull really is the biggest crime.

La Resistance were shitter than the Headbangers if we're still looking for examples.

I'll accept that they were pretty poor, but their gimmick was superior. Next.

Headbangers were proper over winning the belts and defending at One Night Only.

Almost everyone on that card was over. I put it down to the brits being super excited to see the WWF put on their first UK televised event in 5 years.

Watch it back, Headbangers are one of the most over acts on the show.

Right before the attitude era got going, there was a time there when Mosh and Thrasher seemed to be expected to be the faces of the company or something, or at least like they were the most marketable wrestlers on the roster. They were on everything! Vince must have thought the Marilyn Manson thing was so zeitgeisty and edgy it was going to defeat WCW. And then all of a sudden, they were nobodies and all the attitude era stars were in their glory. It must have been such a strange time for the Headbangers getting left so far behind. It's mad that the hopes were so high at one point though.

They nosedived at a time when fuck all else was going on tag team wise as well. Something could be said if they kind of faded out when E&C and The Hardys started tearing it up at the end of the summer in 1999 but it was a year before that they started dissapearing from everywhere but Shotgun. The Outlaws literally were the tag team division for awhile.

I'm not hearing anyone badmouth Team Corporate though. Shamrock and Bossman - the worlds most dangerous tag team!

This reminds me of Public Enemy in WCW. Well into 1996 with the nWo and Sting in full force, the WCW magazine was running double page spreads full of Public Enemy merchandise they'd clearly imagined was going to be doing big numbers that summer. T-shirts, Backpacks, Pencil cases, the lot.

There was barely an nWo tshirt in sight, such was the slow production cycle of the time.

I read Kanyon's book, and its funny that before the nWo idea, the whole promotion was going to be built around trying to gobble up some Mortal Kombat fans. The Blood Runs Cold stuff was mega expensive and they were going all the way with it. Then Hall and Nash became available and they went "fuck it."

Also, dont know if anyone mentioned it yet, but they brought back the LOD at the Manhattan Centre to a giant pop in 1997. It was a surprise, they'd got a pair of stars back together during a time when they were desperate for some name value ... and they went to a double DQ with the Headbangers to protect Mosh and Thrasher. It was the oddest thing ever. The LOD you assumed were going to run over them, but the Bangers held there own and shared the points.
