The Beatles skipped a generation for me.  I think I saw it too much as my mum and dad's music to get seriously into them as a teen,

It wasn't so much that it was my Mum and Dad's music, as I loved most of what they played when I was growing up, it was just that it was never played in our house. Ever. Our house was all Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Eagles, reggae and lots and lots of Motown, and I can't recollect any other house on the estate playing it (and there was LOTS of stereos playing)

I never heard The Beatles as a kid, but obviously knew of them and by the time I got more into music it wasn't something I was interested in finding out more about.

I blame Oasis as a whole generation (wrongly) saw them as 'their' Beatles and perhaps didn't bother as a result.

Houchen would’ve been all “I see you’re supporting the wife beater band then”

They were the original kings of sniff weren't they?

I still freak the fuck out when I listen to Tomorrow Never Knows. It's so sprawling and futuristic and ancient sounding at the same time that it seems twice as long as it actually is. Ringo Starr invented the Chemical Brothers.

If the medley doesn't do it for you do, nothing will. The orchestral refrain of You Never Give Me Your Money that comes back in during Carry That Weight might be my favourite moment in music ever:

They also inspired one of my favourite comedy scenes ever:

"I've got a new mantra, ommmm Paul is a big fat cunt!"

just listened to the new song. It's good, but not remarkable, mostly just surreal to be able to be listening to a new Beatles record. That probably means more to others - like Bacon said, they're not a band I group with at all, neither of my parents listened to them, nor where they really part of the broader musical landscape until I was exploring music on my own years later, so I've never had a particularly deep connection to them, as good as they were.

Doubly surreal, though, that a "new" Beatles single just came out right after a Rolling Stones album with Paul McCartney guesting on it.

Nah, the video's fucked it. It's like those memes people make out of kitch memorial and wedding cards people have made in walk in photo booths in casinos.

The ending was really nice.  Most of the rest was a mess.  Couldn't get Bo Selecta John Lennon out my head during the ghost John mucking about bits.
