Cannibal Corpse were reliably great, they sounded brilliant in The Beacon too, that's a grand ol' room and a fancy building you wouldn't expect to see a death metal band in, but it worked. They played one song minus Corpsegrinder too, he had to run off as he nearly shit his pants.

 Municipal Waste tidy support too, broke up the death metal nicely.

My tickets finally came through today at about 5pm. I get not distributing them for massive shows which might be subject to a lot of tout action and at all, but I think for a Cannibal Corpse show that is in no way sold out, probably would’ve been fine to just send me these when I bought them

Absolutely insane that they sold out 10 months in advance, but clearly that first batch of bands they announced have proven to be a great draw. Fear Factory been givne the chance to make up for their shocker of an appearance last time they played is good, Milo has breathed new life into that band and I'm looking forward to hearing him when they put out a new album. Nailbomb though, fuck am i gutted on missing out on weekend tickets now.

Incineration Festival has sold out of it's deposit scheme tickets too, so if you're going to get one now you have to pay in full, and Fortress Festival is close to being a sellout already too.

Download are announcing their first bands on November 12th. I'm hopeful of a Ghost headline slot for that, they're so ready for that slot now, but other than that I'd expect it just to be the usual suspects they play it every other year

Whats your guesses?

Wont be Maiden as they have their own tour.

I suppose Slipknot could be in with a shout but I cant imagine they would announce that until after their arena tour.

Metallica not out of the realms of possibility. Would be a bit weird of their only appearances in the UK in years were both at Download though. Would much rather see them do their no repeat two night gimmick at a stadium. 

Doesnt leave many obvious names unless they try to strap the rocket to a young white meat babyface.

I don't think Metallica will be back for a few years yet, they're too busy making massive money on their own stadium tour. Slipknot I think would depend on whether they have new album due or not. They keep saying that they're going to release 'Look Outside Your Window', the last time saying that it would definitely be released in 2024. They're without a label right now, so unless they sign with somebody today that's not likely to happen, so I wouldn't expect them to play Download again having only played in 2023.

As for what @Dead Mike suggested, I could see that as being a possibility, even if it does nothing for me personally. Sleep Token have had a ridiculous ascent in such a short space of time, but to use your white meat babyface analogy, they're massively over. That doesn't mean that you put the title on them though, but they'll shift some tickets if given the slot. As for Korn and Green Day, they're the heritage acts now that Download have relied on for so long. Like I say, Metallica are unlikely, Iron Maiden are busy, Aerosmith are done completely, KISS are doing the ABBA-avatar (ABBAtar?) gimmick now. Rammstein arn't booked for anything as yet, but they're another band that can make more money doing their own thing, Tool haven't played since 2019 but have been the UK a couple of times in the last 2 years, so could perhaps benefit from going away for a bit and coming back when they've got some new material (so that's Download 2032 sorted).

But to answer your question as to my own guesses, I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin. As I said, I think Ghost are totally ready for it and if you saw them on their last tour or saw the 'Rite Here Rite Now' film, it's hard to argue that they haven't earned it.

If all else fails, they're always Def Leppard

That's a proper 'Create Your Own Festival' that someone at college would knock up without any concept of how much it would cost in a real world setting. I'm assuming it's been funded by the same people that put on that Power Trip Festival last year in the US

Wouldn't mind seeing Nailbomb again. Saw them at the Dynamo Open Air in 1995, but my memory is somewhat hazy due to the passage of time and the copious amounts of skunk bought from the coffee shop directly opposite the hotel we were staying at.

Same, but I worry they're not seen as a big enough draw in 2024 to warrant the slot after having played lower down in recent years.  Maybe the insane turnout for Limp Bizkit this year has swayed opinions on that though. 

I know Linkin Park are being rumoured for Leeds/Reading instead but they'd be a suitably big name to take one of the slots.  Green Day would definitely be big enough but seem to have avoided Download historically, so who knows.  As much as I love them I definitely don't need to see Slipknot or Metallica back for a while.

I mean I'd eat a free ticket and flights to Sick New World if you put them in front of me, but having watched a decent amount of videos of it on YouTube, the atmosphere does seem to confirm a slight too-good-to-be-true thing going on. Poor sound, sets cut short, festival-goer-as-cash-machine thing in full flow and...I don't know...it seems like a mix of people genuinely into the music and everyone else with their phones out gawping at a whacky nu metal zoo/exhibition in the middle of a giant parking lot in one of the worst places on the planet. 

Come to think of it, I'd hand the free ticket and flights back to you.

They've had a huge resurgence in popularity with the Gen Z's, easily the biggest they've been in many years so I think they'd be ok as a main event band today. Download seems to be pushing to a younger audience recently, too.
