This Christmas

Redbelt

Twilight

Zack And Miri Make A Porno

88 Minutes

Thoughts on those titles? Thanks!

Watched Zack and Miri last week. Am a big fan of Kevin Smith's movies, but I thought this was by far the worst thing he's ever done! Dull, predictable, only really laughed properly about twice. Was a struggle to get through at times.

88 minutes is really bad, but sadly doesn't reach the 'so bad its good' level of terribleness - so give that a wide berth.

Not most of the way, but the last 10 minutes of it certainly do. It's fucking ridiculous.

I watched a movie called Black Sunday about a terrorist plot at the Superbowl. It was pretty tense stuff actually. Especially the awesome climax, which couldn't be ruined by horrible special effects.

I liked Redbelt. It's definatly a different take on a martial arts flick for sure. If you want an action style fight flick go for oldies like Bloodsport. If you want a more serious/drama type movie, Redbelt might be your cup of jah.

Watched Death Note on Film 4 t'other nite, was impressive but way too convoluted for its own good meaning that the umpteen false endings and double swerve was about as satisfyiong as a WCW pay off.. Ruined what in essence had the makings of a good film.

Just finally seen Spidey 2 on five... welll its okay. People have bigged it up as an amazing film but some of the specials look horrendously dated already, and the plot just dragged to be honest. Alfred Molina hamming it up was great, and as much as Kirsten Dunst can act in films, i just wanted to kill MJ

Had the misfortune of watching 2012 last night. Now I wasn't expecting a 5 star classic but I thought at worst it would be an entertaining bit of hokum ala ID4 & John Cusack is usually watchable. It was the worst film of this year, worse than GI Joe : Rise of the Cobra.

Premise is simple enough, the world is about to end due to the earths core heating up & chaos ensues. With a running time of 2hrs 40 mins is it wrong to expect the tiniest bit of character development so you actually care about 1 character before they potentially meet their demise?

It's essentially a long montage of melodrama mixed in with lots of CGI, characters who pop up for 3 minutes making final phone calls to loved ones before being killed, but seeing as you neither know who most of these people are nor care about their relationships with their family members it's just a dull into for boring effects. Maybe I'm just 'over' CGI? When I see big special effects like this I just see effects. There was no 'wow factor' like when the dinosaur jumped up on it's hind legs in Jurassic Park or when the spaceships appeared over the earth in ID4. I was much more impressed with the effects work in District 9. It seemed the aliens interacted with the humans perfectly to the point where I didn't know which were CGI effects & which were men in suits.

There was more soul in the first 15 minutes of 'Up' than in the whole of this stinking turd of a film.

I just took one look at 2012 and thought... nope. I've been really looking forward to the release of the Coen Brothers new film, A Serious Man, which opens tomorrow. Unfortunatly and rather infuriatingly, its not on hardly anywhere because fucking Twilight has about 30 showings a day. The Coen's have only won Oscars and are generally very highly regarded in film, but I guess you can't put that on a lunchbox. So if I can brave all faggy adolescent cretins at the movies tomorrow who'll be seeing that, I might go see Harry Brown which I've heard good things about.

On my flight to New York last week I watched Land of the Lost. I missed it at the cinema because it was only on for a week (which is usually an indicator of the film), but I'm a big Will Ferrell fan so I wanted to watch. It was exactly what I expected really, but shit with some silly laughs. I also watched The Hangover again, I think I could watch that hundreds more times and still laugh as much at it.

I finally got round to a couple of recent horror films:

Drag Me To Hell

Surprisingly rubbish. It's a really slight story for a big return to horror for Sam Raimi, and something about the plot left a bad taste in my mouth.

Girl under pressure makes a slightly unkind decision, gets tortured for 90 minutes, then dies

Not at all impressed.

Zombieland

Worth every bit of praise heaped on it and more. An absolute gem, brilliant performances from all and I think it's going to be one of my favourite zombie films ever.

Step Brothers is amazing. The sleep walking sequences might be the hardest I've laughed, ever.

Seconded. That scene had a large group of us rolling around for at least 5 minutes meaning we missed a a few jokes when first released at the cinema. For some reason it was Will Farell saying "Heyyy...Hiii Im Darrell" that tickled us all. The delivery was hysterical!

:yinyang: I've just watched Paranormal Activity. I've spoiler tagged it just in case

SPOILER - Highlight the black box to read

For anyone who doesn't know it's sort of a cross between The Blair Witch Project, Poltergeist and The Entity. It was pretty good, it's nowhere near as scary as it's made out to be(surprise surprise) there a few good shocks here and there but i just think that most Americans are pussies when it comes to horror films. My only real gripe with it is that the main guy in the film just came across as such a huge and monumental cunt that by the time it got to the last half hour or so of the film i was begging for him to be killed in a brutally violent manner.

Overall i'd give it 6.5/10. If you're a fan of films like The Blair Witch Project and [.REC] then i'd recommend it too you
